Is I go firestorm I'll definitely want to stay in the cruiser class. Gosric has a battleship that looks remarkably similar to Zahns dreadnoughts.
Finding a replacement for the Assault Frigate
It's interesting to read the reactions. To me, as a Star Wars rebellion player back then, it is just another rebel ship.
I plan on using one of these guys that I got from the old Star Wars collectible game:
Otherwise, see if there's anything here to your liking: https://www.sites.google.com/site/utarships/
Would you mind posting a picture of that model and the Armada Nebulon B for scale? I really like your idea and I'd like to know a bit how the scale works out.

Here you go:

The model itself is a soft vinyl plastic, so it's heat sensitive. If it's bent all out of shape, you can reform it using some pretty hot water and bending it back.
Dang that's a pretty good size match up.
Yeah that size looks pretty right on for being close to the Nebulon B, but isn't the Assault Frigate mii supposed to be 700 meters? And the nebulon B is 300 meters?
From what I can tell the Assault Frigate mkII is about one medium base length or 102mm long, while the nebulon B is maybe 75mm long. The scale is wacky of course, but I would kind of rather the mkI be larger than the Nebulon.
It's not that I dislike the Mark II, but I've always been particularly fond of the Mark I, it really fits the cobbled together motif that the rest of the early war Alliance fleet has. The Mark I always felt improvised, while the Mark II feels optimized. The difference between fixing an old car with junkyard parts to make a race car, versus slapping a bunch of high dollar performance parts on it

Yeah, that Mark I is way too small....it should be a lot bigger than a Nebulon-B. Shame....back to the drawing board!

Why back to the drawing board? Why not find a smaller Nebulon B, such as the old Micro Machines one, that fits better into scale? That Mk I is about in scccale with a VSD. Seems like the ideal fix if you like that model. The Micro Machines Nebulon is about in scale with the VSD as well and are pretty common if you look for them.
Love this thread. The mark 1 might make it into the fleet eventually. I've found a great option in the form of Gosrics battleship "bright avenger" on shape ways. It actually has the look of a redesigned dreadnaught from the EU.
Im glad you like it. i will probably add a bit more detail when i add the sockets. It was a pretty early model from back when we were using Starship battles minis for a roleplaying game and needed filler ships

Any chance of you creating a mkI using that as a base and just upload it for people to buy?
From browsing through your shapeways stuff you have some quite accurate reproductions and just generally good other stuff, I'm sure it would be within your power to make a mkI (or a few variants of the mkI
)
Thank you. I try not to make too many accurate models. I dont want to infringe on FFG or Disney in general. There are a few exceptions in the case of ships that i really like but i usually stick with original designs or 'interpretations'. When i do make something that exists officially in the SW universe (canon or otherwise) i tend to stick to obscure(relatively) ships like Bothans or Hapan that havent been in movies or TV. Im pretty sure there are one or two of the Mk1s out there already though

Would you mind pointing us all in the right direction? I figured the Assault Frigate mkI qualified as fairly obscure due to the fact that there are like 5 versions:

Now I want a multi-part box set with quick swap pieces, allowing one to create any of the six variants, with stat cards split between factions... one ship would be a whole wave of releases ![]()

Ohh man...thanks for sharing! I think I like Type III the most!
That is AWESOME looking, even for a Rebel ship! ![]()
Ill have to look. I know i have seen them around but it isnt a favourite so i havent really researched its availability much
Type II and III look fantastic.
I am not a huge fan of those fins, but in III it still looks pretty good! And I prefer the II over the regular, bland dreadnaught design.

I'm really curious, where do each of these variants come from? I've never seen Type 1 or Type IV before.
I found the image in this thread on another forum:

Not sure where they originally come from. Some wiki page might have sources. It's worth noting that someone else has made one of the variants as a 3d model to be eventually created, but I have no idea if or when he plans to sell it. His other projects are said to be ready for casting but kinda far off, like years.

Again, the current production dates for his stuff are N/A, so I dunno. If enough people inquire he might crank them out faster, who knows.
Edited by dmgcontrolTask Force 4222 kits look fantastic! I'll have to keep an eye on when they're bringing their stuff to market!
