I'm not a fan of the Assault Frigate. I like the stats and its purpose, but design wise it's ugly and non sensical. Two no nos for sci fi ship design. That in mind, I've been looking at potential stand ins. Firestorm armada offers a lot of options, but I don't know how some of those ships scale next to a victory. Does anyone have any comparison pics of those models or others with the Star Wars armada ships?

Personally if I'm playing a guy I want to recognize the ships so someone tossing down other game ships as stand ins doesn't interest me.

Secondly ... I really dig both the look and feel of the Assault Frigate ... its my great white hope for the Rebels. ... cause atm the Rebels be losing

One the rebels are not losing. Two, thanks for the opinion, it's just as valid as mine.

I'm not worried about playing this game at the shop or competitively. I'd be more worried if I was the opponent and I couldn't tell what the rebels were flying with cards, titles, and bases all clearly defining what the ship is.

Wait for the Mon Cal Frigate in Wave 2?

I'd keep an eye out on Shapeways. You never know what is going to pop up there.

I'm not super fond of the design of it either, it just looks goofy, like a big bulbous fish, whale... thing. Sky-whale-fish-ship... potato. It's quite odd and I'll probably only get the one for the sake of that it seems exceptionally powerful for a Rebel ship at the moment while being outgunned by Star Destroyers is going to be something to endure until Wave 2. If the stats weren't so solid I can't say I'd ever be interested.

I liked the MK I a lot better myself... but I'm trying to think the best of it. That's going to be a really big canvas for a custom color scheme...

When I first saw the fish I hated it. But seeing its stats and having more time looking at it it is kind of growing on me. Of course it also reminds me of the Hitch Hicker's Guide to the Galaxy. Just paint a picture of a flower pot on its side.

You know if you take all the Movies together and inputted the probability of all the relationships of all the characters have with one another in a whole galaxy wide conflict it could probably fuel the Improvability Drive for years. Also the fact Darth Vader didn't recognize C3-PO or R2-D2? And Chewie laughs at the idea of the force when he had fought next to Yoda in the Clone Wars?

I'd never seen it before it was announced for this game, but I like the look.

Alright fair enough, its ugly, ill give you that. She is one ugly ship. That being said i dont think you should say shes non sensical or say thats a reason for dislikeing that ship in particular. If there is any design in star wars cap ship that is non sensical it is the Star destroyers.

That being said if you want to replace it go for it, im not familiar with firestorm armada but i know that the larger x wing ships are around the same size as a Victory no? Why not modify a falcon?

Well, unfortunately I don't have any FSA models, but this should give you rough estimate of various ship class sizes - that space marine's base is 28mm wide, so you could measure the ships and see which one would be the closest to MK II. And with that you could just check other factions' ships of that type.

I personally dig the frig design, but I wouldn't mind if my opponent replaced his model with another as long as it's not tournament and as long as he clearly states what it is. it's our plastic army men and our toy starships after all. No need to deny others their fun at casual games!

I quite like the Assault Frigate. It looks like a chibi whale to me. I like the fact that it doesn't look much like the Nebulon B or the Corvette as well as I really want my Rebel fleet to look like a real hodge podge of vessels compared to the more regimented look of the Empire fleet.

I too dislike the model for the Assault Frigate, though it does indeed seem like a powerful factor in the rebel fleet, perhaps even mandatory for some list archetypes.

I wonder if any other star wars capital ships would be decent stand-ins? Would a dreadnought fit the bill? Do such models exist in the proper scale on Shapeways?

You would have to use a Battleship out of Firestorm Armada line just to get anything close to size. That said, I rather like it personally.

It's perfectly understandable, mate. For instance I hate Lancers and Carrack cruisers while I love all the wedge-shaped imperial ships and I hope to find some stand-in models more in line with SDs if those ever pop up in the game and end up being a mandatory pick, so I understand people that dislike particular rebel designs. Hopefully some 3d print on demand companies will let us have models we'd rather have if there's something we don't like - I would trade Carrack for a nice Vigil corvette miniature anytime! Or try using some small Terran ship from FSA.

Would love to see someone try to find Firestorm Armada's Aquan ship replacements for rebel ships to make a Mon Calamari themed force and paint them all in the same style for casual play, haha!

Not to derail the subject but...

The only thing nonsensical for the Star Destroyer is that the heavy guns should be on both dorsal and ventral sides of the hull and angled so they can all fire straight forward.

But you can argue that the ship is designed for enforcement of imperial will, which means blockade and orbital bombardment. In this case the design is very well done. Superstructure and main guns facing a planet for orbital strikes, and the reverse for keeping any relief effort from making it to the planet after it's been surpressed.

Hoping to see a size matched Assault Frigate MK1 on shapeways soon. I'll but the MK2 for cards and bases and such. I'd jus t like to swap it out for a better looking (in my opinion) ship

As far as replacement models go im all for it if it makes your gaming exliereance better. If you do decide on a different model and you end up modifying/painting it you should definately post that thing!

I like the look of the assault frigate. I will enjoy rolling dice to kill it.

I also like the way the assault frigate looks. One of the better rebel ships for sure for both looks and function. In fact this ship looks amazing on paper.

I have one of these too...i want to compare the size with the Armada AF2 and then decide.
