The Problem of Dark Heresy Combat, a move toward BC/OW/DH2 combat rules.

By KPhan2121, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

One thing I've noticed when playing Dark Heresy RAW is that the way combat flows is wierd. The combat rules rewards players and enemies to root in place and fireing their weapons until the other side are dead. When I implemented the BC/OW/DH2 combat rules, the way a combat situation flowed changed alot. Being able to fire semi or full-auto and move in the same turn changed the way a fight flowed. The characters were almost always on the move, it gave the combat scenario a more kinetic feel to it.

One thing I changed from the BC/OW/DH2 combat rules was that semi-auto fire recieved a +10 to hit instead of single shot. It just seems that Accurate weapons were way too good in BC/OW/DH2 and doing this evened out the power of all three options.

Are there any others who switched to the newer rules? How do you guys feel about it?

Edit: (to moderators) Please put this in the House Rules forums.

The downside to standing in place and firing your weapon until dead is the likelihood you will end up dead by doing so.

That said, Full-Auto is so ridiculously overpowered compared to other options in DH, so yes, the move to the -10 is not a bad one, as allowing someone to move and /still/ fire Full-Auto would make Full-Auto even stronger.

With that said, wouldn't allowing movement after firing full-auto or semi-auto make Hip Shooting a far less effective talent? Especially if you're allowing the +10 on Semi-Auto. It seems that by doing that you're making Hip Shooting completely irrelevant.

Honestly, neither ruleset is "ideal" for representing how firearms actually work, beginning with the effective ranges, which are based on crippled movement characteristics.

Recoil a la -1 or -2 BS per shot fired that applies in the following round, which stacks and only goes away with a round's pause between shots seems a lot more sensible.

As the Semi/Auto Combat Action is now a Half-Action, you can actually move, then shoot, or shoot then move. You lose the opportunity to Aim, but that's the trade-off.
