[World Building] Would anyone be interested? (RT edition)

By SirRunOn, in Rogue Trader

Would anyone be interested in a sector?

To elaborate, I've been involved with the background building of an Imperial sector since Battlefleet Gothic since the nineties. A Rogue Trader game I was running recently wandered into the area and a Dark Heresy campaign I'm working on is headed there too.

I have to flesh out one corner of the sector for DH, and some of it has already been done for RT. Since I'm on it anyway would anyone like it if I fleshed out the entire sector for general use? Sure I can't make every personality on every world, but I can get some of the important people and plot hooks for the systems. RT and DH would be more fleshed out, since every planet has people and an economy. DW and BC I have less experience with so I could probably only note factions and xenos/watch stations on certain worlds.

It's a lot of stuff to do. I might not make it through every system but I'll give it a shot. Is there any interest in the entire project though?

Other than that since a complete work would require local ships, personalities, etc can someone give me a hand with this.

BEHOLD Ordos Infinitas

lol, and rampant melodrama.

I just need someone to tell me how to put an "official" looking book background on that kind of thing.

^_^ oddly enough the ships are all from our BFG game... imagine that.

Thanks for reading,

SRO

I'd be pretty interested in it. even just a simple map with a summary of any ports of note. I like the ship, I'm excited for what ytou've got!

Here's a note that should be important. I'm going to be starting off with the people and ships you could find or know about anywhere in the sector. For DH the Lord Admiral, Lord General, Lord Sector, Pontifex(think that's the name of the ministorum boss), and most commonly met Inquisitor. For RT, a few of the Traders, their ships, and the most famous ships of the navy and ruinous powers. For Deathwatch, Lord Inquisitor Abidel, the near mythic figure for which the sector was renamed.

These are the sector mainstays and elite. The ones you could meet anywhere, or at least not in one specific sub.

Why would I be noting this you ask? Well, they're also the people with the most immense xp pool and stats, given their decades, or for some, millennia of service, wide travels, and hell... one fought in the Great Crusade. I'm pointing this out because I don't want anyone to think they are the "normal" power level, or that this sector is full to the gills of OP. Like the Ordos Infinitas they are unique npc powers that generally work behind the scenes and an average acolyte or beginning rogue trader would probably have a nerdgasm just meeting one of them. I can't really do anything about them being uber, because they would be .

Thanks for your ear. I'll have them out as soon as I can.

Other exceptional members of this forum, much like yourself, utilized a program called LibreOffice, which can be found at http://www.libreoffice.org/ . Never really used it myself; however, I do use Openoffice quite frequently, which can be found at http://www.openoffice.org/. Openoffice also produced Libreoffice, so I definitely recommend it. More information on them both can be found at Wikipedia , or by using a search engine.

A few of the members in question were LodgeBlackman and N0-1_H3r 3, and a copy of their work, cited as "Unearthed Apocrypha: The Great Devourer," "Xeno's Character Guide," and "Macharian Handbook - Tools of the Trade" can be found here , here and here , along with contact information (in said documents). Their work was very thorough, and very well formatted. If you need ideas for anything, let me know. Also, feel free to peruse through all the documents at the links provided or in my signature block for additional ideas. GM discretion is advised. ;)

is libreoffice any better than word?

I dled Openoffice as I did not have word. It worked for what I needed with the spreadsheets, and was user friendly. Can't comment on Libreoffice though. Gona dl it and see how it is, since I just recommended it.

Im fairly pro at Word at this point. Please let me know what the capabilities of LibreOffice when you can, if you don't mind. Always looking for an upgrade to software!

Those files look great! ^_^

Uhm... how do I get the backgrounds out of them? I'll dig around and look.

I don't know how to extract the background from a pdf file.

Work on Ristan Sub so far.

Pretty much as capable as M$-Word, but without the idiotic ribbon system (from office 2007 onwards). And its FOSS (free open source software, which in my terms is big bonus) and compatible with libreoffice.

I use it regularly (Go figure I'm a linux user).

Initial work on Moesby

Though I'm going to have some problems with some systems. My image editor can't write in circles.

And Widow Sub so far. With added bonus that you can actually TELL why it's called Widow Sub.

This one just might go in Black Crusade too eh?

You know, that last line has me thinking. I have a few questions that it would help if I got some suggestions on.

One thread or five?

Four Deathwatch watch stations, and many unique xenos species. A major, stable, warp storm along with more than a dozen chaos controlled planets and a decade long Chaos invasion not thirty years past. Three or four major, hardly explored areas and unknown systems within even the established subsectors to exploit. Thriving trade between the imperium, imperial outliers, and even a non-imperial human civilization. A hundred different active war zones. Two subsectors fallen to insanity and heresy in equal measure. Five inquisitors left alive from the hundred or more originals, deploying acolytes and specially hidden agents of the Contra Mundum in a desperate battle to hold back the Paenonites and Dark Mechanics on Dinamo even as the two factions battle each other for supremacy. Great subsector fleets struggling against the Free Colonials on one side, the Frayed Ends of Sanity on the other as infighting drives them deeper into a corner and splinters of ancient Hive Fleet Orobouris wake in their midst.

And that's before specifics. I don't know whether to put it all in one place(and where would that be) or in all the Warhammer threads.

What areas should I focus on first? It's just too much to do all at once.

And I'm getting yelled at for holding things up here. Those will have to do for now.

So, three days and not a peep.

I'm assuming everyone is used to getting things fed to them from FFG with only a bit of money, or on the off chance just torrenting and robbing it from them. I'm not trying to make money off of anything, nor am I required to hold up a schedule. I would hope, not for people to bend over backwards or anything, I don't think I'm that good, but that when I go all out on teasers, tastes, trailers and other tidbits and just ask for an idea, or what you would be interested in first in return... well you could put in a word.

Oh, Hemlet is shaping up.

I'm not sure how to denote the Galandan Core though. The big nebula in the top middle.

You know, that last line has me thinking. I have a few questions that it would help if I got some suggestions on.

One thread or five?

If they are all intertwined and feeding off each other, than probably one thread for sanity sake would suffice.

Do you mean specifics area's you want to focus on first, or something else? I always stick with general information, and then delve into specifics if I am in the mood, have awesome insight, or it follows a specific story arc. My recommendation would be to go over general information as a whole, for the entire sector/expanse, with maybe brief information on certain important characters, worlds, and/or events that are significant for your story. Once the generality of the area has been covered, you can branch into each sub and its important worlds (brief info there too), with important people, places, and things tied in. This would also assist you when you allow a buddy to write up info on a sub you are unsure about, but already have important info on it in the general sector theme.

Don't be afraid to reach out to people on here (and other Warhammer 40k fan sites) for assistance too. Like for drawings, sketches, and/or images of important people, places and events. A picture speaks a 1000 words, they say.

Yeah, I know what you mean, yet I'm torn at odd ends.

As a sector whole, trying to find one place to fit everything is proving troublesome. What one game in the line covers aspects from all the others? I'm already spread out.

I'm in Dark Heresy 2 here: https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/index.php?/topic/135497-world-building-would-anyone-be-interested/

And Black Crusade here: https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/index.php?/topic/136825-sector-abidel-the-fate-of/

And Cogniczar has the overview map here: https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/index.php?/topic/134307-the-great-and-bountiful-abidel-sector/

This doesn't count the Star Panthers and Celestial Wrath chapters, which would have to be set up through Deathwatch along with Abidel the True. I suppose I could skip only war besides on Karan...

It leaves me with err... BC, DH2, DW, RT... four different places where things are relevant but no central location to put all of them.

Second note(since I always seem to screw up quotes), yeah I'll probably put the main characters in one overview thread somewhere. Abidel, Sector Governor, Sector Pontiff, Moseby Governor. The main ships of the line.

Third note. You said reach out. Does anyone have a right page left page background set I can put on my documents to make them look DH/RTish? Maybe the half red I along the border? Also FFG seems to have left out a nice WRITABLE Deatchwatch pdf character sheet.

Can anybody help?

Ooh... this map is getting close to done:

Things are coming along.

Another Bestiary One. Probably going to be very popular because this is what the next game's Acolyte party starts out hunting.

Don't worry, they have Happy with them. It's a capture mission. ^_^ ain't I a stinker?

More Heresy related stuff over in the DH2 thread.

*Rattles his head*

Just have to remember the Death Singularity SHOULD be 6.0161284100416009463963580331896 AU in radius. Why did they have to make AU's such a horrendously NOT ROUND number.

Wouldn't mean much to anyone not into black holes anyway.

Things are going incredibly slowly now that family troubles have crushed my time

They're a modern death world family

It's a page right out of apostasy

Thumbs up for all the work btw.

Yeeeeessssss, that is possible. As would the name of Winter scale be too I think. In fact, some would be amazed to know if one headed trailing, past Scarus and the Periphery(however big that is at the moment) one would run into high identically named aspects of the Krounus(sp) Expanse.

Those NPC's I was talking about. Wonder how many people will get the nods and in jokes.
