just got the game after playing the app for a while now but i have a question about the number of investigators in 1-3 players and over 4 players:

does it stay at 4 all times or is it by number of players?

(example: 3 players 3 investigators/5 players 5 investigators)

It is recommended to play that way. But in a two player game we usually use two investigators each. When I play solo I use up to four investigators. It really depends on how comfortable each player is with controlling multiple characters. I have played three player gamed where two players used one investigator and I controlled two.

I find the game plays great with just two investigators as well.

My wife, roommate, and I play one character per person. It keeps confusion and the mess to a minimum.
