Red and yellow deployment points

By Soapy, in Imperial Assault Rules Questions

Do only read if you have already played the Aftermath mission!

Another question came up during the Aftermath mission:

Can the imperial player optionally deploy figures (during status phase) to the red and yellow deployment points after they have been "activated" (Fortified instruction)?

I would've assumed they're one time special deployment points because the Rebels couldn't see what's behind the doors, but page 11 of the RRG stats that "Red. blue and yellow deployment points are not active until specified by the mission's rules, even if another rule ...".

It doesn't state that they're only active for the reserved groups, so optional deployment to the red and yellow points after they've been first "activated" in Aftermath should be legal.

What do you think?

I think the irony is that you ellipsed out the part that argues against your interpretation. The rest of the sentence is "even if another rule allows a one-time deployment to any of those points." So just because an event in the scenario says to deploy a specific troop to a red/yellow point does not mean it is activated yet.

Missions events say when yellow or red deployment points are active. You can't use them for optional deployments until then.

@Aahzmandius_Karrde: I get what you mean. But the use of "until" implies that there is a point in time during the mission from which on the points are active.

Missions events say when yellow or red deployment points are active. You can't use them for optional deployments until then .

So you're with my interpretation?

Yes but just because the points are there doesn't mean they have to be used as a general deployment point. Some missions will only use them as special deployment points. Look at Imperial Hospitality for a mission when they are simply activated.

Also check "Generous Donations"-mission about deployment points being activated. Good example of changing active deployment points.

A mission event can instruct you to deploy troops to certain deployment points (or even areas) without them ever becoming active for optional deployments.

The green deployment is the only one active unless the mission events/setup SPECIFICALLY state otherwise.

Sometimes, deployment points are used for "scripted deployments", meaning that they want specific models to deploy in specific spots.

Knowing this, the rules clearly state under "Deployment" RRG, Page 11:

Green deployment points are active at the start of each mission. Red, blue, and yellow deployment points are not active until specified by the mission’s rules, even if another rule allows a one-time deployment to any of those points.

Just because you deploy *SOMETHING* to the yellow deployment point, does not make it an active deployment point. The mission will specifically state: "The yellow deployment point is now active", which in Aftermath, it never does.

The Red Deployment Point only become active once "Fortified" has been triggered, *AND* you choose to close and lock the door, it then states "The red deployment point is now active".
