Any good for an almost 9-year-old?

By Pac_Man3D, in XCOM: The Board Game

Hi folks!

I'm a fan of XCOM EU/EW but had held off buying the board game because I didn't like the look of it initially. However, since I've spent more time looking at photos, reviews and the app itself, the board game has become more appealing (perhaps there are subliminal messages in the app?). I'm wondering if anyone with experience of playing the game could tell me if it'd be suitable for a child? My regular gaming group includes my partner, our daughter and my brother-in-law.

Thanks for the feedback!

Best wishes

I would say not suitable for a child at all as a full blown player.

Timed sections of each round are pretty intense and require a lot of coordination between group members. They also need to make strategic choices that could easily screw the whole group over.

The game supports 1-4 people. With 3 people, one person would simply be running the app, and being both the Commander and the Central Officer. (And honestly, you could probably divide up the central officer OR commander roles with the Chief Scientist if that's too much for one person.)

Then your daughter could just be in charge of rolling dice for you.

Thanks for the advice - and that could work, given how she rolls dice.
