From my FLGS and tried out single player. My initial thoughts:
1. Need a big table to play, especially single player. Lots of components, at least for an app-driven game.
2. First play-through, I *needed* the unlimited pause time. Way too many things to consider, between trying to make sure my soldiers' icons matched the enemies/mission, deciding on what techs I should get and which I should cycle out, remembering all my timed phase actions, etc.
3. Whoever said, "Anyone complaining about the app needs to stuff a sock in it" was completely and totally correct. The app is great, and I can't think of a better game to incorporate it into. I certainly don't ever want to try an "app-free" version of this game.
4. Definitely going to be more fun with more people, but I'm pleased with the single player option.
