The Commando "Ork" Career

By MorbidDon, in Rogue Trader House Rules

Be it as it may I dont allow PCs to play xenos, demihumans, or whatever you'd like to call em...

For whatever reasons I may have this is the game style I like to run (no further explanation).

Now, of that - I was wondering what people (aka Fans an Players) think of converting the Ork Commando into a Human Commando equivalent option...

On Earth today - in real life; Ranger Schooling exists within U.S. Armed Forces

SEE HERE

What this means is anyone can cross-train or "harden" themselves into such a role...

My idea was to make "commando" training an option available to all human characters.

Insight, thoughts, ideas?

Maybe the requirement for Imperial World (where they were born, according to Origin) might be needed to fit?

Arch-Militant. You want a sneaky Arch-Militant? Create an Elite Advance Package. Take away some Arch-Militant Skills and replace them with skills your Commando needs. Or create an Alternate Career Rank.

With a little tweaks it should be possible to port the kommando to be a commando alternate career rank.

If you drop

Common Lore (Orks) +20

Speak Language (Ork) +20

Forbidden Lore (Xenos) +10

Ded 'Ard

And change Ded Sneaky to Dead Sneaky then it should work just fine.

Perhaps have a look at the gland warrior to fill in the slots missing

Blind Fighting (Replaces Ded 'Ard - same cost)

Paranoia (replaces Speak Language (Orks) +20 - same cost

Common Lore (Koronus Expanse) (replaces Common Lore (Orks) +20 - same cost

Common Lore (Imperial Guard) +10 (replaces Forbidden Lore (xenos) +10 - same cost

And that seems to fit just fine.

This is great info guys!

I was looking around - could anyone tell me where to find "Dead Sneaky" Talent?

Um, changing the name to something similar that sounds less re...um, Orky. I think it's just another "port it to a Human equivalent" step, but the Human version would use a name more in tone with Human speech. So, same Talent, that talent, but with a less Orky name, for the non-Orky user.

Ahh duh... lol

Totally, I understand now

I will post my creation once its done...

Unlike the Ork varient - the human one will be allowed at Rank 2 instead (i am getting rid of the +20 skill options therein in order to reduce it down to a 2nd Rank offering).

Advise?

ok Gamers the "Human" Commando is done (in theory)

This option is to represent Commando-Training along the lines of Ranger School in real life...

The main mechanical challenge was creating this as a Rank 2 Career option rather than the Ork's default at 4

Hopefully this presents a balanced option that doesn't break the game with "creep"

Seems pretty good.

Would you post a second alternate career, advanced commando to get the +20 skills or would the player be required to get those skills through elite advances if they wanted to get beyond the +10 and they couldn't get the skills in their main career?

I may take a look at the Storm Trooper and see first what Fantasy Flight did for them if anything; from that I will extrapolate an option for your gaming Weedygrot...

I am open to suggestions - though I am a "low powered GM LOL" who shy's away from giving "power" in accordance with game creep-age.

If making a spot on Easy Call - then I say allow that +20 as an Elite Advance towards one specialization - that way PCs could play this Career over and over again and get something different with each iteration / or go at it!

- Concealment (some sort of guerrilla specialist maybe?)
- Demolitions (some sort of sapper or demo specialist?)-

- Shadowing (some sort of scout or tactical-positioning; aka the guys who call in air strikes from behind enemy lines)

- Silent Move ( some sort of psycho? J/K; ANYTHING from infiltration specialist to recon)

In this way no one single "Commando" can't know-it-all ( aka different re-playability )

Hope this helps and thanks for the support
