Contact Archetype List

By MorbidDon, in Rogue Trader House Rules

Hail and or Howdy...

So as I was fleshing out my version of Footfall last Saturday (first time arrival for Me as GM and my Players) when my players and I came to a junction in the session - namely contacts. My players and myself have played other systems where the inclusion of Contacts was/is a part of the game system - now given that, that's easy for me to convert and use which isn't the issue I wanted to go over actually herein, more specifically I was wondering if the community can help me redefine the following list I found online in a Shadowrun forum...

Examples: Mayor would be Markgraf or Margave, Butler may become Steward and so forth...

Though the distinctions I make as examples above are more akin to Warhammer Fantasy - I could see their usage in the 40k universe...

Thoughts/Advice?

P.S. I'm not looking to replace your 40k "rules" (so be nice) just looking to share and get new insights and perspective towards the specific topic herein.

If you have an interest in this - I drafted up a document which defines the whole of this house rule / mechanic that we are using... requests will be answered.

Thanks Again - Stay Gaming

Morbid

Thats a lot of names!

So, here are some general ideas, rather than going person-by-person.

1) A lot of those guys are Shadowrun specific.Yakuza vs. Triad. Trolls vs. Orcs, Orc-rights activits, etc. I'd start by changing any of these to generic names or striking them.

2) There are a few easy swaps you can run through categorically. Anyone whose primary occupation deals with operation of or maintenance of Technology is probably a Tech-Adept or Tech-Priest of some flavor. Anyone who's an administrator is going to get the Adept title. Etc.

3) Everyone else can probably stay, unless they don't fit in the religious, authoritarian Neo-feudal society of the Imperium.

Dark Heresy: Inquisitor's Handbook had a section on contacts, they could be individuals, groups, or organizations, various quality contacts (how often you could use them, what you could use them for, etc). Not the best such system, but not the worst, either.

Sounds sort of like Cells, Compacts, and Conspiracies from Hunter the Vigil by Whitewolf... very cool I will take a look at the Dark Heresy book next then!

I think you nailed it Egyptoid! That list is exactly what I was looking for as a reference...

There was a Sasquatch left in there, is now Ogryn.

Also, if someone is a Sensei, roll a D100:

1-97 they run a Dojo

98-100 they are a grandson of the Emperor.

I think if they roll 100 they should be a descendant of Chuck Norris! ROTFL
