Not to steal V-wing's (or this tread's) thunder but I think the ARC-170 might even cooler Scum medium fighter as I look at it closer. Great looking ship (sinister looking nose) with x-wing stat line and astromech & torpedo slot. Potential for crew member and an auxiliary firing arc (see the images for rear facing gun). I think it could be a really interesting ship. Not maneuverable like V-wing but sturdy, hard hitting, and the rare rear arc.

Perhaps it would be better cast with Rebel or Empire based on fluff however...

It's not in the 12-15 point space! It's basically a scum a-wing. It is more advanced than the Tie, but the Tie was cheaper and since they didn't have any real major threats in the galaxy, they stopped primary production. Its stats would be something like 3 3 2 1, same dial as a Squint but no 5 straight, and 1 banks and 1 straight, and a salvaged astromech slot. plenty of room to differentiate between it and all the cheapies.

If the V-wing is equivalent/superior to the A-wing why did the Rebels develop the (15pt) A-wing again?

It's a Clone Wars fighter, outdated and lightly armed. It is at best on par with the TIE fighter. It is certainly not superior to the TIE interceptor, and also certainly does not have firepower equivalent to the X-wing, TIE interceptor and B-wing.

The word Interceptor does not mean A-wing/TIE interceptor equivalent: an interceptor is a fighter craft designed to take down other fighter craft. The TIE fighter is technically an interceptor.

It's not superior to the 17* point A-wing. It fills a different role. Z-95s are even older, and they are on par with Ties. It is superior to Fighters but a notch below the A-wing and Squint. It was so effective that a lot of the A-wing was created from the V-wing! It's a direct predecessor, and as we've seen with the X-wing and Z-95, that doesn't make it worthless. It would fill the A-wing style role for the S&V faction, and as for the last comment about interceptors and the like, Tie Fighters are actually Space Superiority Fighters/Escorts, not interceptors. As for stats, I suck at them, but believe me it IS a better ship than the standard Tie.

Direct Comparison:

Speed: T. 100 MGLT V. 75 MGLT = T. > V.

Acceleration: T. 4100 G V. 4800 G = T. < V.

Shields: T. no V. yes = T. < V.

Armament: T. 2 Laser cannons V. 2 Twin Laser cannons - T. < V.

Hyperdrive: T. None V. hyperdrive ring = T. < V.

Crew: T. 1 pilot V. 1 pilot 1 astromech = T. < V.

Hull: T. Titanium hull (15 RU) V. Unkown hull, but armor plated (RU???) = T. ?? V.

The only thing the Tie has over the V-wing is speed and maybe hull strength.

Let's deconstruct that.

Play pedant if you want, but Chaardan Refit was a pretty clear recost of the basic A-wing.

By point cost necessity, and they had to be given missile ability.

Which explains why the Empire dumped them right? It's a light interceptor craft (which I'll restate does not make it an A-wing equivalent) deployed en masse.

And the difference between a SSF and an interceptor is? They're both terms borrowed from air combat that don't translate over fully: the distinction between air superiority fighter and interceptor doesn't carry over when you port them to Star Wars space combat.

The V-wing does not have a TIE interceptor, A-wing or Star Viper dial: it'd be better than a Z-95 or X-wing but we're talking the dial quality of the TIE fighter or more likely TIE phantom (which is the same dial without the 5 straight).

As for the "stats" do you know where those numbers come from? I've seen one source where TIEs go up against V-wings (scum V-wings as well) which is Empire at War. There the Pirate faction have two levels of fighter and the V-wing is the weaker of the two. It gets butchered even by basic TIEs.

The V-wing is not better than the A-wing, and the only space below the A-wing is pretty much covered by the Z-95, Scyk and TIE fighter.
