Curious complaint re Star Viper

By gundamv, in X-Wing

So, I really like the Star Viper as a ship. Great stats, interesting maneuver dial, and interesting pilot abilities.

However, I do have a curious complaint: I think that the paint job on the "wings" of the Star Viper looks sloppily done. It looks like it was "painted" on with a sharpie pen or dry erase marker or something. Is the figure depicted only a preliminary model or is it pretty much the final model? Is anyone else seeing the issue I'm seeing? It's relatively minor, but is still somewhat annoying.

Feels like it's supposed to be weathering of some sort. I just don't see why weathering would separate so cleanly from the black edges around it.

I believe the "black edge" is a crevice like indent on the ship, each of those is suppose to be an armored plate over the wing. Hence the stop of weathering at the line.

Problem is the stark paint contrast makes it look like each plate is weathered center-out rather than edge-in, which is just wierd.

it is kinda funny, i saw that and had to look closer

I've seen real world items wear like this, its not that far fetched, not the normal per say for miniatures.
