Im getting myself a decimator.

My mum is determined to get me an xmas present, i've tried to explain to her i dont really do xmas as im not a christian but she'll end up buying me some awful jersey and aftershave anyway so i'm asking her for an outrider as i think it looks ok.

Its a bit embarassing having your mum buy you toys for xmas at 40 but hey ho....

It's okay it's not even a real Christian holiday they stole it from the pagens, the feast of saturnalia was the original winter celebration and they used to bring trees inside as a symbol of them protecting nature from the cold of winter.

I think this is a really bad place to have a religious debate. That said, saying "Christmas isn't a real Christian holiday" is a gross insult to the 1/3 of humanity that follows that faith. I'll grant lots of "Christmas traditions" are derived from pagan practices (shoot, look at Easter and Halloween for overlap between the two), but the coincidences (and co-opting) of specific dates have very little to do with the principles behind the religious observances. "Respect each other" is a concept that should transcend religious beliefs, and is completely in keeping with X-Wing's "fly casual" ethos.

I've not had any intentions of arbitrarily stopping anywhere. I'm getting the Decimator, but not the Outrider. I just don't really fly Rebels much.

I'm ambivalent about Scum. I'm glad that they've been introduced, but I identify as an Empire player. I just don't find myself flying all the rebels that I own, so I wonder why Scum would be different for me.

I also wanted to stop after Rebel Aces... But then saw how awesome Wave 5 was. I sort of intend not to buy S&V... But I need those Y-Wing upgrades cuz Y-Wings are my boy. So... In a few months I'll probably have 4 IG-88's flying around the board. Whatever.

Is it strange that I could care less about the Decimator and that the only reason I want it is so that I can put a Fleet Officer on a shuttle?

Not strange at all. I'm buying it 90% to get Mara Jade. The other 10% is because it looks like a super awesome ship and I want to fly something with a Defender that isn't a swarm.

Look it's just a fact that the Romans took a pagen holiday and turned it into Christmas, there's no moral implications there is just an accurate statement of events as they happened.

The golden rule outdates your religion by about 500 years in its modern form but can be found in principle as early as -1700bc.

And I was just telling gadge he can celebrate the time of year without it being a religious thing, it was aimed at no one else and you've derailed the thread needlessly because you didn't like one person telling the other it was okay to enjoy time with loved ones.

I'm sitting here my hands shaking it been 14 weeks since my last purchase. I thought I had my addiction under control but now as the release for the Decimator and Outrider draw near and S&V not to far away I feel myself falling into the same habits. Searching for loose change in the couch. looking for things to sell. Buying my wife the cheaper earrings for our anniversary next week. Robbing the kid’s money boxes. Whether I buy Wave 6 is still up in the air and depends on whether there is anyone near where I live that I could play with (if I were to just play on Vassal, there's no need to buy physical models). A bunch of folks near where I live left X-Wing for WH40K lately. If there is someone I could play X-Wing with, then I'll probably start by getting 1 of each set and then might get doubles or triples of mook ships (e.g. Scyk Interceptor).

So they've left a fairly balanced and cheap (buy miniature game standards) game to play 40k where a standard force costs £500 and the winner is decided in the list making stage.

There will be plenty of time to argue about religion on Thursday everyone. I consider myself a Christian, but this is an X-wing forum. There are plenty of other places to take this fight up, you know with Thanksgiving coming up and all.

BTW. I see no reason to not buy at least one of each of the ships for myself.

The official date is Wednesday, though it is out in some places already.
