Sice 'Fat' is the new to be in X-Wing ...
lets fat out a couple of Ties:
Black Squadron 14
+ Predator 3
+ Hull Upgrade 3
x 5
= 100
20 HP with 3 Defence, 5 guns with indepent 'Howlrunner' effect.

i have tried this, or similar, several times now. my conclusion? it doesn't work.
1) i REALLY missed the PS1 blocking ability, i was consistently screwed over by b-wings, z-95s and other ties.
2) 2 dice with predator is still 2 dice.
3) they are still amazingly squishy, and without the bility to boost they cant get out of arc easily.
i'd love to know if others have had more success.
I like it! It's easy and simple. Think it might struggle a bit still against an Outrider, Falcon, or Phantom. Might have to try it out though
I like the idea of spreading out the tie swarm Tie cloud.
Haven't tried that, but i have tried:
5 Alpha's with 3 Hull upgrades. 2 less hull and less PS, but more manueverable, can block, and packs a very serious punch (3 red> 2 red with rr). Almost won an Imdaar Alpha (pun intended) with it. Way too much fun not to try. ![]()
I like having 3 Alphas with Stealth Device and a 37 point ship.
Too bad it requires buying 5 defenders to make it work.

Just play it on Vassal
I'd try this with ruthless and not predator....
I've had some good success with 4 Black Squadrons with Predator, Backstabber, and Dark Curse. It was touch and go against some really hard to kill Chewies, but I don't think it would stand up to really heavy competition. HLC Dash will also murder Tie Fighters, I expect.
I've also had poor fortune with 4 blacks + hull+predator.
I jousted with 3 naked bandits...and lost decisively, while taking the evade action, no less!
Ties just can't hang like that. They work in a swarm or as filler, but not as the meat of an upgrade heavy list.

Photo of the event. Very epic battle 5 alpha's vs 5 y wing.
The evidence exists! ![]()
(Half the reason for the squad is that interceptors just look so stinken awesome).
Edited by TexxFat isn't simply the art of making a ship as expensive as can be; I think people really should realise that.

What would it be, then?
If you drop the hull upgrades, you can get in a sixth.
I've had loads of good wins with my 'heavy interceptor' list (heavy rather than fat, its more polite).
Thats two royal guard with PTL, HU and SU led by Turr Phennir with either predator or outmanouvre and SU and HU
Its 15hp, 12 red dice close up and nippy as heck. even against a 'fat chewie' list i only just lost by two hit points on the bwing escort that was limping about after the falcon was killed. (b wing saved by R2D2 as crew in an e2!)

Fought in the wood nebulae that famous area of space four parsecs from alderaan
I sometimes forget how lucky i am having a 4x6 felt starfield mat. Its well handy, and like these guys we tape of the playing area with masking tape
I think if i hadnt had already had one from battlefleet gothic i'd have paid for a vynil mat or made my own from a roll of black felt and some white paint as it adds so much more to the game to play on a starfield.

My friend's mum is a seamstress. We both have 3'x3' sheets that are basically bedsheets with star patterns printed on them. Sure they're a poor substitute to a vinyl mat, but they roll up and fit in our bags which means when we go somewhere to play, we always have something.
I couldn't go back to playing on bare wood again the slightest accidental touch sends them sliding, £25 I paid for a mat was well worth the money.
But if a table and masking tape is what you have you make do.
Its why i like a felt mat. Nothing moves unless you pick it up and physically move it. Not even if the table is knocked.

Remind me again...where exactly is Alderaan?
I'm not sure fat apply but I've had epic nights (prior to W4) with Backstabber + Engine Upgrade and Mauler + Opportunist.
Both can hit with 4 die at r1, Backstabber acts a bit like Biggs and Mauler as Jake + Outmaneuver.
I've had loads of good wins with my 'heavy interceptor' list (heavy rather than fat, its more polite).
We need a thread on how the abuse and bullying of calling so many lists as FAT is offensive and hurts the larger players. Maybe we could call the Big Boned or Beefcake? It is hurtful anyway to continue this practice of labeling things as FAT and it keeps away those larger gamers. We need to be more inclusive and anyone who does not recognize this and step up to the plate is part of the problem. ![]()
