As the game grows why not intoduce a 2nd pilot card for the big names?

By bmwrider, in X-Wing

If there's a legitimate reason, such as piloting a second ship or, in the case of Fett, Scarlett, etc., in a second faction, then I'm fine with it. Otherwise, it creates a situation where one card is clearly "better" (either new or old) and the other would never get used.

If/when they make X-Wing: Second Edition, they can tweak the abilities as they see fit.

I've said it before. I think it would be awesome to have a rebel space shuttle Tyderium. Or at least a scenario where you have to sneak by to the forest moon of endor :).

They'll fix the advanced in imp aces II, they already kind of showed their hand on that with releasing the worlds AA Vader card (IMO).

S&V Han in Z-95, it's cannon. ;)

I see no reason why we can't have pilots in other ships, other factions, or even alt versions (not better, just different, but sorry Fel's Wrath, everything IS better).

Lord Vader, Sith Lord: 30pts, tie advanced
PS 10, EPT: at the beginning of combat, one friendly ship at range 1 may take a free action from thier action bar. During the end phase that ships gains a stress token.

Anakin Skywalker, Sith apprentice: 25pts (depends on the incoming "buff"), tie advanced
PS 6, EPT: When a friendly ship at range 1 is destroyed, you may make an immediate attack at a ship at range 1-2.

Anakin Skywalker, Jedi Knight: 25pts, tie advanced (only because we're never getting an ETA-2)

PS 6, EPT: Your action bar gains the boost icon, your upgrades gain the droid slot. Your shield value is reduced to 1.

Alternative cards for already featured pilots to bring in new abilities and/or put them in other ships would indeed be feasible. Warmachine and Hordes already does this for warcasters and warlocks and from what I've gathered, this usually doesn't invalidate the old version of the character but rather brings an entirely new play style for the character in question.

Didn't Horn work for the imperials at one time? or something along those lines before he joined Rogue squadron...

I like the idea of the alt pilot cards. Like we have Yavin Wedge, so it would be awesome to see Endor Wedge. A different ability, change it up to represent his change in position. I think it would be really cool and other companies have accomplished this idea incredibly effectively.

Putting different versions of the core characters out there lets that cinematic feel stay and keeps them in the loop and up front. I'd love there to be more talk of the iconic and pivotal characters.

I just want the to grow and change with the game and not be left behind.

Like we have Yavin Wedge, so it would be awesome to see Endor Wedge.

If anything the current Wedge is Endor Wedge. He uses the front box art.

I've always considered Yavin Wedge or 'Young' Wedge to be Red Squadron + R2D6 + Outmaneuver.

But if you want 'flavor' text on a new card for him I'd give him Turr Phinner's ability at PS5 or 6 with an EPT. Cost: 26-28 or 25-26 without the EPT

I think If they released Rogue Squadron and Black Squadron Packs respectively it would be a big hit. Let's say five to ten new pilots each with an alt paint(c'mon corsec) x-wing/tie advanced.

I think alternate versions that aren't just strictly better is certainly a way that more options could be added to the game (within the same faction as they are already doing named pilots in different factions).

I'm not sure they will bother in core expansions, but most likely in "aces" style products.

Also they are most likely to do this only if they have an ability they don't want run with a specific pilot so they use the unique rule to make sure that doesn't happen (see Dash Rendar pilot vs Dash Rendar crew; ie having both in effect on the one ship would be mechanically unsound, so they've made it thematically impossible)

Ugh. I don't like the Planeswalker style of denoting new characters in time-relativity... looks dumb, esp in Starwars.

I agree:

Existing pilots in new ships best, especially terrible ones, is the best way to do things.

However, Vader REALLY needs something iconic for his tie Advanced.

Maarek in the Defender.

Love the idea of Rogue Squadron pack. I was just thinking of trying a themed list with Tycho, Wedge, and Horn. Minimal room for upgrades but fun.

I just want Corran and Tycho in X-wings

This would be great. LIke the idea of bringing pilots into other ships that they are known to have flown. How about a Tycho in a Lambda shuttle like in the first Rogue Squadron book? He flew with the squad but had to fly an unarmed ship due to Horton Salm's reservations about his loyalty.

So...

Tycho in Lambda

PS: 8

Attack: 0

Defense: 2 (showcasing Tycho's expertise and lack of focus on offense)

Hull: 5

Shields: 5

Cost: 24

Pilot Ability: A friendly ship at range 1-3 may spend your blue target lock as if it was their own.

Upgrade Bar: 2 EPTs, 2 crew, System upgrade, no cannon

This would obviously shake things up a bit. There are a lot of unique aspects here. Cross faction ship/pilot. Alter ships base stat line. Zero damage causing capabilities. Two native EPTs (this is similar to what he could have in A-wing with test pilot). Low cost for high PS (balanced by lack of attack).

His special ability is straight out of the book where he passes a target lock to Horn. But it would be great for action economy.

Basically, you get a heavy HWK with real interesting combinations. Consider tactical jammer. Title ST-321. Weapons engineer. Nien Numb. I think this would be really fun.

If released, an alt paint Lambda could also include a shuttle title card for shuttle Tydirium which could be something like this.

Tydirium

Type: title upgrade

Cost: 2 or 3

Enemy ships cannot acquire a target lock on this ship.

I may need to quit my day job and beg FFG for a development position...

It would be great to see pilots fly other ships.

I'm not sure what i'd be more excited by, other versions of my favorite pilots in thier current ships, or seeing their abilities on another ship or both. Wedge in a ship with native barrel roll or boost would be a blast

I hereby swear if they release Horn and Tycho in x-wings, I will buy several copies on principle. Although your Lambda Idea is great, and if you ever used Tychos ability with Corran it would be legendary. For Corran, I would like an ability along the lines of: If this model makes a K-turn maneuver, it may receive an extra stress token to preform an extra attack in during the end phase.

I'd love Maarek Stele in a Tie Bomber or Tie Interceptor :P

Yeah, or a Defender, though I doubt that is ever getting an aces pack. Maybe if they do an avenger or something.

Maarek in the defender... Like he's meant to be.

Sorry about the amount of qoutes but...put a fork in it, thread is done! Corran, Tycho and most importantly Maarek Stele and Keyan Farlander more than any other pilots we currently have need a second card. If they aren't going to make TIE Avengers, then make Imperial Aces II and put Stele where he belongs in a TIE Defender. None of the other pilots have a fighter that they are more iconic with. FFG did a pretty good job with them. Except Corran, Tycho and Marrek. Farlander is an excpetion. Sure he should be in an X-Wing too but for alot of us that played the old X-Wing PC game. If you think of Farlander you think of B-Wings. So they nailed that one, if only they had held back on Stele for the TIE Defender release.

There are over 40 named Rebel Pilots in the old movies they can use, mostly from Return of the Jedi. Knock the dust off of them and get them out into the fight. All the talk about the older ships being reissued pretty soon with some kind of updates is the perfect time to give us new pilots.

would be really really cool if Horns X-wing had that cool paint job on it as well!!! but don't really see his abilities as having to change. it would simply be a different ship with the same horn card with different art of course.... Heck they could release a rogue squadron pack!!! now THAT would be cool!!!!! and EXPENSIVE!!!!!!! and who cares if its not canon!!!

GUYS. Guys.

Battle of Yavin set, with an X-wing, a Y-wing, a Tie fighter, and an Advanced.

For Y-wings, we could have Y-wing Keyan and Davish 'Pops' Krail, as well as all the new S&V stuff like the BTL A4. Ties could have a few new Pilots, as could X-wings. A few new Titles, Astromechs and EPTs, and then the Advanced fix thrown in there so everyone buys it.

This would perfectly complement the Core set, so new players wouldn't have to buy 2 Core sets and 2 expansions minimum before they can start playing.

Just look at the game that shall not be named....they just started doing that and the old cards are already being used to light up peoples fireplaces

I'd rather have Yorr and Jendon in Tie Defenders.

Maarek in a Tie Avenger - sounds cool.

Thematically you could put him in any snubfighter - except for the Tie Advanced.

So put the virtually mandatory fix to one of the most iconic ships in the game in a $60 product? Yeah, that would go over real well. There weren't any complaints about having to buy the transport just to get the purely optional new X-Wing pilots back when the GR-75 was released.

mandatory
ˈmandət(ə)ri/
adjective
adjective: mandatory
1.
required by law or mandate; compulsory.
No, it isn't 'Mandatory', just like buying the Tantive for C 3P0 isn't 'Mandatory', just like buying anything in the game isn't 'Mandatory'.

vir·tu·al·ly

ˈvərCH(əw)əlē/

adverb

adverb: virtually

1.

nearly; almost.

If the fix is as good as we all hope it is it will be "1.nearly; almost." compulsory in order to play with the advanced. Much more so than Chaardan Refit, which many consider to be almost compulsory (i.e. virtually mandatory) on the A-Wing.
