People talk a lot about their wishes,fixes ect , why not just make more than one card for pilots that could use an update to keep up with the games growth.

I am not talking replacing cards but offering a second option for the same names.

That doesn't accomplish the same thing though. People like to play with Iconic pilots, and it would be nice to have more options when building a team that could include a well known pilot.

I could see something like that invalidating existing ships/cards, which is not the model that FFG is going for with the 'out of the box' game design. They want to make sure that every time someone opens up a ship they have the same experience as some else down the line. What point would there be to buying the starter set if a new Luke and Biggs card, that was better, was available somewhere else.

Now, that all being said, I think at some point we will see an X-Wing Second Edition, which will do just that, with hopefully expansion packs to update existing ships and upgrades. But I am sure that is several years down the road, and not likely to happen anytime soon.

I am not suggesting a replacement card but a 2nd version as a way to allow more options for the famous names like Vader and luke, not as a fix but an addition of depth.

But all the iconic pilots have really, really good abilities bar one, and that one got reprinted with an amazing one.

Another idea would be advanced EPTs that are specific to certain named pilots. It could come out in an X-Wing All Stars pack or something to that nature, that would have an EPT for Luke Skywalker for example, that might cost 7 points, but did something better than a standard EPT. Give it a snazzy name, like "The Last of the Jedi", and maybe it gives him +1 Agility, one free EYE turned into an EVADE per combat, and all of his 3 speed maneuvers are green, which would give him a natural synergy with R2D2.

Give Darth Vader an Advanced EPT called "Dark Lord of the Sith", costs 10 points. Grants him the Boost action, +1 Pilot Skill, and Doubles ALL of his range modifiers that benefit him, so +2 evade dice at range 3, +2 attack dice at range 1.

Stuff like that woudl be a way to show progression of the principle characters. You would still have your original out-of-the-box named pilots, and they'd be WAY cheaper that someone fielding them with the advanced EPTs.

Yeah, or a Defender, though I doubt that is ever getting an aces pack. Maybe if they do an avenger or something.

I would rather them begin to move pilots to other ships than to do new versions of them in their current craft.

Given the TIE advanced has two unique pilots, given that Vader is the only passable TIE advanced pilot and given the fixes for the advanced are meant to power it up and broaden its options, why would FFG limit the TIE advanced to three unique pilots and add ambiguity to list building?

Since it is just an extra card and some cardboard, I am not sure why they couldn't add 3 new named pilots, plus an updated version of vader on the back of one. Personally in this case I would rather they just do a global advance tie fix.

There are other characters that might be fun to see in different ships though, such as Maarek and Lando flying one of their other ships. Characters known to fly multiple ships would certainly count as adding 'new pilots' to new ships capabilities.

I could see "experienced" versions of some of the pilots, provided they weren't ridiculously powerful and offered a genuine, interesting alternative from their existing versions. But then again, how high do you want pilot skills to go? Wedge is already a 9; where do you put his experienced version? And would those higher numbers either unbalance the game or necessitate such a high cost, no ability would justify it?

They have already done this with Fett. I would rather see pilots in new ships (particularly Corran and Tycho in X-wings, and Keyan in a Y-wing) than new cards for them in the same ships.

Yes, I'm totally in favor of FFG continuing to issue alternate versions of existing characters.

hmm perhaps 3 versions of Han one an Imperial Han. didn't he fly shuttles or something. two a Scum Han.. and The Han we have now... Probably different versions of Chewy as well as don't they live like 300 years or something??
