Idea: Docking Rules

That is what the stress and Ion tokens are for. No actions and a ramp up speed wise. Agility doesn't represent acceleration in all ships, and having a penalty like that would unfairly benefit the slower ships. A stress and ion token affect all ships equally.

Except that ships aren't that vulnerable when they're ionized. Additionally, I think it would be hard to justify the effect, and you'd have to deal with upcoming abilities that deal damage to ionized targets (I'm thinking Dace Bonearm here). A similar issue follows with assigning stress tokens, where it's hard to justify the effect, and certain pilots can game the effect.

A better use for "docking" rules in XWM would be (IMO) rules for disabling, boarding and capturing ships. This would be very "thematic" for Bounty Hunters, etc... , as well as for scenarios like rescue/capture a VIP or important cargo, etc...

I think the whole realm of Carrier Ops is best handled with scenario specific rules and off table actions. Also good fodder for campaigns!

No matter how much you do or do not like the carrier idea, I really think that it is almost guaranteed to happen at some point in xwing, for the following reason, if for nothing else. The Imperial huge version of the Rebel Transport(so the small huge) will most likely be the Gonzati Cruiser (right size, right mission profile, appearing in Rebels as the "Imperial Transport" ) and it transports two Ties into battle(it does so in Rebels multiple times and shows the disembarking during a dogfight) I think this is enough to warrant furtherdiscussion.

X-wings don't have an s-foil lock mechanic despite that being one of the ship's main things.

Thats true. And I remember another thread a while back, that suggested allowing a "Lock S-Foil/Unluck S-Foil" action and I think it either gave the boost action while locked in non attack formation, or make straight whites moves, green, or something along those lines. I wouldn't be opposed to that rule in Xwing 2.0

I see your point on the ion token. Undocking could instead turn green moves white, and white moves red. This would accomplish the maneuvering restrictions, and apply stress only if the pilot is trying something complex while undocking.
