so just played a game and i hate my area

By empty1986m, in X-Wing

So i found someone at work that plays. So we decided to play a match, needless to say i quit.

So the whole match after i would take sheilds off of his ships he would place them to the bottom of the table near his cards then slid them back on. When i asked him about his sheild tokens he said he but them back in his box.

I couldnt win against ships with boosted up r2-d2's gaining sheilds everywhere

So you had some bad luck, and found a cheater. Try and find someone else. Or play over Vassal.

and the funny part is at one point i thought i was doing good then realized most of his ships were at full str. And i dont play much just collect at this point (sad) whats vassal

Sample size of 1.

Yeah, one guy isn't enough to judge everyone in your area. Leave him to his cheating ways and try to find someone else.

Or do what I did, and introduce more people to the game. Three of my friends so far have bought into the game since I picked up the starter and said "hey, let's give the quickstart rules a try."

Call him out on it. Worse case scenario you don't play with him again which doesn't sound appealing anyway. Best case scenario he apologizes and/or changes and you have someone to play against. Better than nothing.

i mean i have 2 buddies that play but they refuse to buy into a game. So they use my stuff its okay cause i get to buy more ships. I have talked to the local store owner the other night he is pretty booked with magic and GW games and doesnt have alot of space

That is a tough situation. It sounds like the guy from work isn't someone you would want to play again. Where are you anyway? There may be more people in the area that you just don't know about.

Wait. Was he using just one R2-D2? Or more than one? Hopefully not more than one as it's a Unique card and it can only be on one single ship. Or are you suggesting that by the way he was apparently cheating that it was *like* flying against multiple R2-D2s?

Just next time actually have a neutral piece of paper that keeps track. Just tell him its for yourself and to help do target priority.

needless to say i quit.

Your job? Might be a bit of an overreaction!

Seriously, though, this is the kind of person you don't want as a coworker, either.

Definitely try the paper record suggestion. Always make sure you announce changes like "Luke is down to 0 shields, 2 hull" so it's on him to 'correct' you, and say "Well last turn I wrote that he lost all his shields, and you didn't say anything" if he tries anything funny.

You can always say you're keeping a log so you can go back over your games to try and learn from them.

In fact, that's not a bad idea anyway. It's what chess players do.

i have to give a big shout out to the two folks that have taught and are teaching me the game. Thanks Drew & Issac... before that I was JUST a collector.. as in my local area there were NO players well none that i knew of anyway... Now as for your situation you could call him on his cheating, make him play ties only lol... Guess it depends on how much you actually want to play.. just don't know why somebody would want to intentionally cheat particularly at a casual level. or am i reading it wrong and you were just frustrated that the R2D2 equipped ship was able to regen its shields? and then proceeded to kill everything?

no since he was putting sheilds back on all his ships it felt like all ships had r2-d2 on them he only had him on luke

Maybe your opponent was not familiar with the rules for R2 and was placing shields on all ships by mistake?

Maybe point this out saying R2 only works on the ship its on.

If that fails, well, time for some new opponents.

What area are you from?

Yep, just give up.

Anyone called dibs on your collection...

If not, DIBS!

But seriously, sack up and tell your opponent that they are playing "incorrectly" (if you don't want to flat out call them a cheater) or move to a new opponent. Getting antsy on the innerwebs isn't going to improve your situation, even if it makes you feel better for a bit.

lol im from wilkes-barre PA

that's near Scranton and Tobyhanna?

There have got to be stores near there that play X-wing.

I'm in agreement with everyone saying that you need a new opponent.

I would never play with this guy again.

That said, don't give up on Your Area. Mike and The Bots have taught me enough about My Area that I'd never give up on it.

I have enough X-wing stuff so that I can play several Imperial teams and several Rebel teams. I have no problem letting someone else use my stuff to play against me. Maybe they will buy in, maybe they will continue to borrow from me. I don't care.

It's not like I have a favorite build that I always use and it's not like X-wing is some unbalanced garbage (like other games that I could name) where you're shooting yourself in the foot by not playing a particular faction or build type. And ignoring all of that, I don't care that much if I am playing at a disadvantage, I'd be happy to play at all. The place that regularly had X-wing around here has dried up and I'd love to get a game in at all! (Chicagoland Area, Lake County)

yeah im like a 30 min drive from scranton

If you can't find a game store in that area then you just aren't trying. Isn't one of the biggest minis conventions right around there?

post in the organized play board asking for stores.
