Wave 5 is shipping to distributors!

By Pygon, in X-Wing

Only nearly 3 months late....imagine if they hadnt held all thst stock to sell at gencon and worlds....might have been here months ago.

Doubtful...thats not really how fulfillment works. I keep hearing this lame arse complaint and it is starting to get to me (I work in supply chain management for a huge fortune 500 company)...they more than likely had a small batch (seeing as they are supplying a convention...not their worldwide distribution system) air shipped at a much higher cost per unit to get some available at GenCon to get their customer base excited...worth the cost I would say as people on these boards have been complaining if they couldnt get one ever since (complaining cause it only made them want one more I would wager.)

I wouldnt pay the exorbiant cost to have my worldwide distribution chain fulfilled just to keep a few people from complaining...I would pay the extra cost for a few units to get to the biggest convention of the year to drum up excitement however...which is what they did and was a smart move on their part.

You people just need to be patient and realize that world doesnt revolve around you. Would I like to have my Decimator now? Absolutely! Would I have liked to have it 3 mos ago? Hell to the yes. Am I pissed because they made it available to those who were able to make it to GenCon when I couldnt? No...I will get mine eventually and that is what matters, and now that i have a solid date I really have something to look forward to. If you need it so bad now go pay a scalper on Ebay...they would be happy to supply you.

Just be glad we finally have a definite light at the end of the tunnel.

EDIT to add: Thanks for the update by the way! I checked the page this morning and it still said on the boat...Ill be contacting my FLGS this coming week to see when they plan on having my $50 wave 5.

Thats cool your happy to wait, if this was a one off situation then i would be happy to wait and i used to be, when it becomes a habbit for a company to fail to meet its own deadlines and expect its customers to just accept it i get annoyed. Do i really want wave 5 now...honestly i could care less my excitement waned when Q3 came and went and then when Q4 rolled around and it only just became available towards the end of said quarter. Defend it all you like if your big fortune 500 company were to fail to meet set timelines constantly do you think the distribution team would be told its ok, the customers will be happy to wait for the product...yeah i dont think so. But hey your happy to be given a product nearly 4 months after it was expected by the company and thats great for you, im not and feel that i should be free to express my dissapointment on this forum or any other

Cry me a river dude.

For not caring you sure are putting alot of angst into your post. But whatever...I take it you have never worked with the famed GW (where most of us probably began our minis experience) who wouldnt tell you or the distributor when or even if something was going to hit until maybe the week before if you were lucky...they let the rumors fly. And then you to pay 100s of dollars to build and paint your own crap.

As i said you clearly dont understand how supply chains work or the intricacies of seaborne transportation and customs regulation...there are a thousand things that could go wrong and usually do. Weather patterns, order limits, factory issues, payment and invoice issues, customs and duty issues, strikes, warehousing and distribution issues both financial, plant, or labor related, the list goes on and on.

Go ahead and piss and moan on a message board all you feel you need to...thats fine you have your opinion and I have mine...mine comes from a wealth of experience regarding issues that could arise and most of us, I think, are happy to have new pieces hitting the shelves, And this just over halfway into Q4 not near the end, plus they at least pay enough attention to update their dates when the old one passes. And if you want to harp on dates Q3 ended in September so 1 1/2 months maybe 2 if you count shipping time to your FLGS...not four. If there were constraints in production or customs issues that came up at the port this delay makes complete sense. I consider myself fortunate they even try to give us a general date...but I am a fairly patient man...you may or may not be. I dont know you and honestly dont care.

My first little rant, by the way, wasnt directed at you specifically more at the swipe that it was available at events many of us couldnt go to, myself included. That has come up quite a bit here and I have bit my tongue...yours was just the needle that broke the camels back and I am sorry if you think I was picking on you specifically. That was not my intention (though this post is directed at you as you directed your last one at me.) Your initial post was some snark about the product not being available to you specifically, yet available to others who paid good time and money to go to these events. I am not trying to stop you from ranting as that is beyond my ability...I am simply offering a different opinion. Take it or leave it. If you want these when they are red hot fork up the money to go to the events and go get your hands on them...no one is stopping you. If you are unable or unwilling to do that...feel free to vent on a message board as is your right...but dont expect those of us who disagree or get sick of hearing the same lame arse complaints (backed up by no evidence mind you) to sit idly by and not give our opinions as well. There was no conspiring to keep these under wraps till after some tournament. You and the rest of us have no idea how their supply chains operate or what hurdles they may have had to cross. If you seriously believe that the small amount (relatively) of stock they had at GenCon and worlds would have allowed this to be released months ago...I have this letter from a Nigerian Prince I am sure you would take a keen interest in.

EDIT to add: Had to remove double quote...apologies.

Wow, you'd think people were talking about the cure to the Ebola virus in here.

I understand that supply issues are very hard to predict. However, with releases consistently being 2-3 months late why don't FFG simply give the release date as a quarter later than they do? Then we would all be very positive on the forums if things were released a week early?

It just feels like that guy who is always half an hour late to games night. It's so predictable you know you can get a short game in before they arrive.

Good real life check there.

That said, the company could really use to streamline everything and hire some better people in decisions, supply and marketing principle. it feels like theyre letting the wave of popularity and the good product carry them, instead of fully capitalizing on the fact that they have a highly successful product.

Wouldn't help really you could still get a terrible batch, the boat could sink, port workers could go on strike etc etc, they place a large order with their supplier and get an estimate and then add a month for shipping and give us their estimate.

It's annoying but not really anything new for ffg.

Next year me and a bunch of friends will go to gencon, buy a bunch of the most popular ship, and then sell them on Amazon for 3x retail price.

It'll work too

Yep me too.

My friends have weird names tho, MoustacheDreadstar, PirateDreadstar, JuanitoDreadstar and ObiwanDreadstar.

Wait... that's not what we're talking about? I guess I'll just see myself out then.

Again were Xwing players are so spoiled where I am from. We get our stuff here fast. Our wave 5 are already here. Just waiting for release date. Hehe

Cure for the Fat Han virus if the TCO is any indication.

Having the wave 5 ships 3 months before they are legal to play is just as annoying. Sure we could play casual games but so could anyone with hand writen cards. So here a quater of a year later we have the chance to finally get to play the ships at events along with everyone eles.

This pretty muich. They dont have much control over a factory in China or the other things i mentioned in my post above. So what if they are wrong with the date? Not much we can do about it and whining on an internet board I dont think has benefited anyone that I have heard of in the history of the internet.

I can sympathize with that sentiment...but like I said and HoboJesus pointed out there are a large number of things they just dont have control over. Working in distribution I dont put a whole lot of stock into anybodys ETA. This issue is alot bigger than most people realize and its not as easy to forecast these things as so many here seem to think it is.

But as I said I can sympathize...I can almost taste that delicious Decimator now! (I guess i can have a side of YT too...though it will need to be washed first...filthy rebel.)

wow,

so I guess I can buy my reserved ships at my FLGS in about 3 weeks, possibly 4 then :(

Oh, wow, I hadn't thought of it that way. That must have been really hard on you. My deepest condolences for your tremendous hardship.

:P

Same boat here. It was real tough ;)

the only good thing with them taking so long is that Battle foam all ready has the templates for them!!!
