Staying in place with a Phantom.

By WWHSD, in X-Wing

In another thread a poster mentioned a Phantom player that was able to keep his Phantom from moving. I've busted out my templates and this is about as close as I can get to not moving:

Is there some trick I'm missing or is this about as close as it gets?

Do you know what upgrades and which Phantom in particular he was using?

Other than colliding?
There may be a way with Echo...

Echo is just about capable of a '0 K-Turn' depending on movement choices.

With Advanced Sensors it seems like it would be possible to have a net move of nothing. You would likely change which way you faced at a minimum though.

1) Use Advanced Sensors to Barrel Roll left/back as far as possible

2) Decloak Right/back as far as possible

3) Perform Hard 1 turn to the left.

I don't have a picture (aside from a basic scribble I just did in mspaint!), but I believe that you would end up just where you were, facing left now instead of straight ahead.

Obviously if you reversed which side in each step, you could face the opposite direction.

Without Advanced Sensors I'm not sure its possible to end up exactly where you were without bumping, but it is definitely possible to not go very far. Decloak -> Hard 2 turn - > Barrel roll should get you pretty close.

There's a reason they didn't give the Phantom a 1 bank. But you should be able to do a 1 turn and barrel roll to essentially move backwards after cloaking (while facing a new direction). With Echo, he he can do even stranger things.

A 0 turn is still a brilliant maneuver, particularly when you have so many other options on how to resolve the maneuver when it comes around.

Oh I definitely agree, But if the challenge is to have a net of 0 movement, I don't know if that, strictly speaking, qualifies.

I don't. It was just a little detail that caught my eye in someone's post in another thread.

Let's just say there's a reason you can't decloak backwards.

The phantom can't stay completely still but it can non-engage in style. But when you think about it, the TIE fighter can Hard 1 all day.

+ Barrel Roll, for a "Matador Turn", as I call it.

loving the graphics! Perhaps the 3 Hard with a roll will get you there? looks close.

That's just poetry. Bravo.

Now do Echo!

Yep. That's the bunny. I will often do that instead of a Koiogran in a jousting situation. Let the enemy fly into my sights, rather than simply re-orienting.

It also gives me a wider variety of maneuvers the following turn, as I don't have to clear my stress!

interestingly, it's the same position more or less.

Skinnier, though. And also Green, ain't it?

Yup. The 2 banks and 2 and 3 straight are the only green on the Phantom dial.

never mind

Just so I have a place to link back to could someone do a series that shows the backward diagonal ladder series on phantoms? Preferably with its starting position front left corner marked laddering down to the right. Just plain decloak/1tight form, I don't want the barrel roll as it assumes your running the ACD. Just the simple ladder would be fine. :3
