The sky is falling again ... from Wave 5

By any2cards, in X-Wing

So ...

Being from Vegas, I am a gambling kind of guy, always wanting to put odds on things. Since there seems to be a never ending list of "Sky is falling posts" (the latest being the Fortress), I am trying to figure out what to put the over/under at for the first "Sky is falling" post that mentions a ship from Wave 5.

What will the complaint be? What will be OP first? What will have no counter in the Meta?

Thoughts?

And then, exactly how long do you think it will take from the moment Wave 5 is out, for this complaint to be made? Hours? Days? First major tournament where someone does something unexpected?

Go go go go go ...

I thought people had been flailing their arms over Dash Rendar + Outrider title for months now?...

Outrider HLC super-Dash is already causing cries of Doom, since he's basically a frailer, but faster (or more manueverable since he cares not for asteroids) and harder hitting Falcon

Edit: beaten to the punch :(

I will say that the Decimator, despite being awesome looking, doesn't seem nearly as intimidating due to how swiftly it goes down to focus fire. On the other hand, the imperial C3PO might turn more than few heads once people start exploring the options she offers to the Decimator and other ships (especially how she can compensate for bumping by giving you another action trigger if you have PTL or EI)

Yes, but it doesn't quite count, as there isn't widespread availability of the ships ...

I don't think enough true momentum and play time has allowed for the truly EPIC Sky is Falling post yet. I know it will be made, I know it will be coming, just wondering what it's going to be, and how long it will take once the ships are tourny legal.

Since wave 5 has been completely spoiled and on some tabs for almost two months we've definitely already had our sky is falling posts. Its been rolled in with some of the fat han skyfalling as we get more obscene large based turreted ships.

58-pt Dash. He's competitive.

So is this supposed to be one of those "sky is falling" threads? Let's get this show rolling.

You clearly missed how Dash Rendar ruined the game.

I feel like it's a "the sky has fallen, everybody carry on" thread

Have you been paying attention to the TCO?

Dash is dominating.

Dash is pretty good. He's also pretty new, which is a big part of why he is doing so well.

It's kind of funny that a good counter to dash is whisper.

My Wave 5 "sky is falling" predictions:

Fat Han will continue to be OP and make people cry.

Somebody will put together a 4 ship rebel build that kind of makes fortressing work which will make people cry some more.

Dash will be as OP as Fat Han and more tears will be shed.

People will still hate on Phantoms.

While this is a joke thread, do we REALLY need to encourage more whining?

Mara Jade on Echo. To op for you.

So what OP tactics will S&V have once wave 6 comes out, Boba Fet?

The complaints will go away fast (for the most part) as soon as people get their product and get to work with it ... nothing feeds doom and gloom more than operating without hard evidence...

But then again, I want to see people scream over 5 BSP with Ruthlessness ;)

How many copies of that card come with the Decimator? I really hope that it is 2 or more.

Honestly, my money's on the FFG standard Kavil (Blaster Turret, R4 Aggro) + V.I.

He's not rofl-worthy like Fat Falcon, but he is a mere 31 points that hits as hard as a Phantom :)

Other than him, I think we're going to have to wait for the Star Viper to get the real cheese going. The scum Firesprays are all quite hilarious (even the PS 5 bomber is going to be pretty silly with the changes to Proximity Mines), but there's nothing that screams "BROKEN!" to me.

The new Kath does scare me senseless, but I havn't seen a way to give her the accuracy efficiency required to make those 4/5 dice buttshots garanteed deaths outside of the Security Droid which only procs off of the Firespray's limited Green Manuevers.

There are two in the box, yeah.

Wait there are two of what??? Isard? Ruthlessness? a;kdjsgnaksldmgkasmgds.

I think I want to get two decimators for epic fun.

Two Ruthlessnesses. Two Isards wouldn't be helpful because she's a unique crew card. =P

The Decimator Fortress might be a thing....

Cmd. Kenkirk + Isard + Dauntless Title = 50 points

RA Chiraneau + Wingman + Moff Jejerrod (or anything you fancy to spend 2 points on) = 50 points

Set up like a fortress and start doing the 1 forwards. Kenkirk moves first bumps into the Admiral and gets to action because of the Title then gets a stress. Then Chiraneau moves and bumps too, but doesn't get an action. Now Chiraneau does get a built in mini-focus at range 1-2. So in reality your action economy isn't just awful.

Combat starts and the Admiral Wingmans off the Commanders stress and you rinse repeat. Now if he targets the Admiral first, he ends up against a fully ready to go Kenkirk with Isard in the end game. Also with the Dauntless title which can be handy. If you target Kenkirk first, he gets two actions a round after he starts taking damage all the while bumping into the Rear Admiral. He will still be hard to kill while you just sit there stationary. The Rear Admiral will be hard to kill in an end game scenario as well.

I actually haven't tried this fortress out, but I think it can actually be somewhat viable. It can still be rather offensive and defensive at the same time. It scares me.

Countermeasures.

It is a very, very good Hull Upgrade.

I predict we'll see it being used in combination with Proton Rockets on the freighters and the Firespray.

If you want to bump, run Chiraneau with Isard and PtL and Kenkirk with Dauntless and spend 1 pt somewhere, maybe DtF. That way both ships get an action. And a 2 straight green will be a re-bump by definition as long as they start the turn with nubs touching nubs, not nubs touching flat edge.
