X Wing players give a salute to Veterans

By AngryAngel, in X-Wing

I placed a thread for Memorial day, and so it is only fair to give one for Veterans Day.

So, let me say, as one person to many others. Thank you men and women, of the armed forces for your service past, present and future. You defend your countries policies, the people and even in very real ways, freedom and the right to enjoy such freedoms.

It can often be a thankless job, and heavy is the burden sometimes forced upon your shoulders. Some people do think of you, thank you and appreciate your many sacrifices in times of armed conflict and across the globe.

May your service be always honorable, fill you with pride, and may your country always remember you and those like you.

I know our community has its fair share of vets in residence, so give a shout out, make yourselves known, and of course feel free for everyone to voice your own thanks for your veterans. We all should know at least one, family or friends who fits the bill.

In closing, Happy Veterans Day everyone. I hope your Tuesday goes well and you take at least a moment to think of the day and those who serve your country in combat.

As side note, my personal thanks going to the various armed forces of USA.

Up here in Canada the day is referred to as Remembrance Day. The name of the day may be different but the sentiments for our soldiers passed, and present are much the same.

Thank you! It is nice to receive some sort of recognition in an often thank-less job that most don't think of. It really does mean something to us that are or have served.

I also give thanks to my brothers and sisters in service. We fight the good fight.

We all signed the line, to give our all, up to, and including our lives. Those words and oaths haven't changed even though I got out in 97.

Thank you Angel for posting this. Fortunately our troops are better treated these days, and I am very glad for that.

As a former jumpmaster in the 82nd Airborne Division, my thoughts go out to all the poor souls being deployed (again) to Iraq.

Sometimes you just can't put it into words...

Due to events that happened here in Ottawa recently I will be paying my respects to the tomb of the unknown soldier today.

I just visited Arlington National Cemetary last week to look up a relative and also visited JFK's tomb and that of the Unknowns. We were fortunate enough to be there right on time to observe a reclamation ceremony.

As a veteran of both wars in Iraq and a few skirmishes that never saw the news, I'm glad to see people rremember and honor others for their service and sacrifice. But I myself am not comfortable receiving any such praise, maybe other veterans feel the same? Although I fully appreciate the thought, my service was never done with the hopes of receiving thanks or recognition of any type. Honestly my service, in my heart, was done for the country and myself, not Mr.Joe Citizen. It just makes me feel awkward to have an individual approach me and thank me for something I didn't do for him. You can say if it is for the good of the county than it is for the good of all, but it still seems awkward for me. I just smile, shake their hand, and show gratitude.

VA and MD seem the same to me; I'm more somber and dwell on those I knew that are no longer here.

Sadly this VD finds me departing friends after a week long vacation and a rather enjoyable gaming convention to instead enjoy all that is our beloved TSA and air travel en route back home.

Many of us Vets carry unseen scars and burdens that constantly haunt us daily, so it is well appreciated and received

As a shirt I dearly love says "My time in uniform is over, but my watch never ends"

Thank you for observing this day.

thank you angel. As a vet and current service member, I always feel akward when someone thanks me personally, but I appreciate it any way, and I will recieve it on behalf of those who cannot say "you are welcome."

I find it difficult to say "you're welcome," because I feel like it is something I chose, something that I had an obligation for. Thank you for your thank you. 3-8 CAV, the Warhorse. "Honor and Courage"

I feel exactly this way.

But rest assured your thanks is most welcome and all vets are thankful for your support.

It's a horrible shame that in America, it's not men dying to preserve freedom.

Instead, nowadays, it's men dying to further political goals and fatten corporate wallets during an economy that is based/reliant off of war.

Horrible shame.

I feel sorry for vets that give so much for their country when their sacrifice is in fact does not make us safer, but to unknowingly fatten the bank accounts of Mega-Corperations that pay off our elected officials.

It's a sad time indeed where I can consider our Vets honorable people but cannot appreciate their sacrifice.

....and I am a Veteran.

Thank you to my fellow veterans. You are never forgotten, and we appreciate all that you do every day of the year, not just on November 11th.

To family, friends, my brothers from Delta 2/54 (lo those many years ago), and everyone else who wore or still wears the uniform, thank you.

It is an honor to serve. 4/9IN, 5/101AVN (PFDR ABN), 5/RTB. I have served with some of America's finest and continue to serve with the finest.

I'm pleased this thread was enjoyed by who it was meant to be enjoyed by. Your all welcome and I'm proud to know some of our finest, are flying the friendly space skies with us.

This is not the thread to dump political opinion in so let's leave it out. Besides, not all vets agree here.

Thank you all those who have served, regardless of nationality
