Could the Gladiator-class Star Destroyer be the imperial huge ship?

By Disgruntled, in X-Wing

They just announced the 1st wave of expansions to armada, including the Gladiator-Class. While it is 500 meters long compared to the 150 of the CR-90, one would expect FFG would try to introduce the obscure ship that is close enough to the scale of X-wing to be added to the epic format in Armada, to make it more recognizable when make a model that costs around a hundred bucks. 500 meters sounds too large to make sense without really stretching the scale, but I can't imagine they will make an expensive model of a ship without see if people have enough interest in it to buy even a smaller one first.

I would prefer to see the iconic wedge shape.

I very much doubt it. It just wouldn't scale.... even at the Tantive scale it's 3 ft long and anything towards the actual size of the Tantive model will look daft.

(just my opinion)

500 meters long? Wouldn't have thought so.

If the Vigil class was an expansion to Armada, I think we would all know for certain it was going to be in Xwing.

Nope, I'm betting, other than the Corvette, which was already out, they won't be mixing too much / cross-pollinating Armada and X-Wing. Meaning, if you want to fly a Nebulon-B, you are destined for Armada. Why give you the option to fly it in another game and let you opt out of the other game.

The more I watch Rebels, the more I think the Gozanti (or whatever that thing is called) makes sense as the Imperial huge. It sure gets a lot of screen time and the ability to drop 4 TIEs into an engagement make it interesting from an Epic points perspective

I don't see why we can't have the Vigil. Ffg is adamantly not putting any news of imperial huge ships.

Meaning, if you want to fly a Nebulon-B, you are destined for Armada...

Meh, not necessarily...

I think it's a little large but i wouldn't object i kind of like it.

Well I have a spare ISD model here, I guess I know what it's going to end up as!

Look at that height difference, though.

Yes. Yeeees. Glorious, isn't it?

(it's actually not so bad when they're on bases - imagine the Nebulon B's fore section being one short Large Ship peg above the base... you can still fly a Corvette under the spar though)

I would prefer to see the iconic wedge shape.

...But Wedge was shaped just like everyone else.

Egads ; they do look like that the Game that should nott be named is starting off to a fireball start...Those ships make me want to dump my X-wing and start all over...Yet I am still holding out for an Imperial Epic ship...

Hey check out Farlanders card! That's a V-Wing in the background! The Airspeeder, that is.

As I've said to people before, my money's on the Imperial Escort Carrier from Rogue Squadron 3. Reasons being:

1.it's a similar size to the CR90

2. It fills a similar role (though in the Empire's case, more Escort and system patrol than blockade running)

3. Being a carrier (though a light one) it could well have some interesting mechanics related to that.

4. There's already at least one named crewmember it would be required to hae (namely Sarkli)

5. They've certainly gone for ships featured in Star Wars videogames up til now with their Expanded Universe additions.

6.It looks frakking badass. Just look at it: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Imperial_escort_carrier_%28storm_commando%29

I would very well love an FFG model of that ship, and would certainly endeavour to use it when it's not looking glorious on my shelf.

I know I'm gonna be wrong though, for most of those points the Gozanti's probably more likely, though not as sharklike.

Also, Lackwit, that's not a V-Wing, that's the hull of his B-wing, specidfically the middle section, since it's in its landing configuration in the hangar.

I want something wedge shaped. It needs to look like an imperial ship. They want to make the gozanti, thats fine, but if that's all we get, I am going to feel let down by the whole epic thing.

FWIW, who says you cannot love both Armada and Xwing? I don't know that I am in for both, but i surely would not begrudge someone loving both of them. I may have to get me a nebulon B though. anyone make good balanced rules for that thing?

Too big. The CR90 is 150m; the Gladiator is more than three times that at 500m. It would take up half the playmat by simply existing, and could move two or three times before going off the board.

I think you mean "Look at the size of that thing!"

FFG has made it clear that they are not making decision based on ARMADA X-WING Capability. Just because a ship is in one game that does NOT mean it is going to be in both games.

Lol and FFG made it clear ages ago ; only 2 factions and no Capital ships...Only time will tell of what will be added to the Realm

Honestly FFG could make a 2D cardboard Nebulon B that's basically a big token and I would be happy. It's all about the gameplay.
