The passive aggressive comments on how people are bad because they don't take the game "the right way".
But in tournaments you don't choose your opponent, and you can (by your attitude) see that you are not really into competition, so it is not about your opponent's being wrong, than you having the wrong expectations on how a tournament should be. And it is really sad, that you put the burden on your opponents, as they should just play the way you want them to, instead of just realizing that you are the problem.
And the 40k reference. 40k is not intended to be competitive, it receives ZERO support for competitive play from GW, and the game has been a complete balance wreck since long time ago. Yet here you are, talking how the game is directed at the tournament scene, when it's the oppossite.
If there is anything i see coming from 40k players (sorry for the generalization) into this, is the same bashing attitude toward players that play the game in unexpected ways for them (those dirty cheesy tournament players, how dare they).
My sincere apologies to all. My big concern was that this sets precedence for beardy play and poor behavior by players. Again, completely my fault for having any concern to protect the integrity of the game. My concern is 100% genuine and I would like to see the good sportsmanship I have seen displayed in the local tournaments up through regionals (the highest I have played were regional finals) continue. The worse I have seen were a few borderline stallers trying to run the time out.
40K not intended to be competitive? Really, you just start gaming in the last few years? No, it originally never had any competitive elements to the game. But it certainly evolved into competitive play which ruined the game and introduced the most beardy players and those with poor a-hole attitudes to ever walk the Earth. It is only the last few years in which (I have heard) they stopped the large tournaments. That's good but the game is still ruined and I haven't touched in about 10 years. But there are still large 40K tournaments held, it has not evaporated.
We do indeed look at these circumstances through different facets. You believe I am trying to force players into a style of play while I believe others are of low moral character to endorse play which bend the rules to be used as they were not intended or in the spirit of the game.
Now many here are flaming be as a pariah but your demeanors of play and sportsmanship are not widely held beyond your realm of cards and a few other games de jour. Display any of the behaviors you are all endorsing here in most historical venues and you will find yourself the one being ostracized. Oh, my non-competitive butt just took 2nd in a Saga tournament at a convention last weekend.
I guess it is the beat of different drums. Oh well...
