Why's the 2400 so small?

By mazz0, in X-Wing

Is it explained in the fluff? Did CEC do some market research and find that people weren't buying the 1300 because it was too big? I always thought is looked to lack storage space, if anything.

Mind you, this is a universe where the HWK-290 is considered a freighter...

Seems about the right size to me.. I'm no expert at the Eu but I seem to remember it being smaller than the falcon

Well, the HWK had some wrong sizes published.

Because dash does not need to compensate for anything :)

I think it is supposed to be smaller than the falcon.

It's smaller than the 1300, simple as that.

IRC the 2400 has a more efficient interior design, allowing it to to have better performance while still having a decent sized cargo hold.

The Hawk has had like 3-4 different sizes published, look on the Wookiee's talk page about it.

Bigger =/= Better.

but it sort of works take a look at the (base) YT-1300 It is 6 hull 4 shields for 10 hit points. Now the YT-2400 has the same hit points but 1 hull is replaced with shields. It is sort of the same if you look at the Firespray and the shuttle. Same hit points one with more devoted to shields. Or the Y-wing and B-wing, or X-wing and E-wing, and the Tie Bomber and Tie Defender. They all have the same number of hit points and serve similar rolls it is just that latest one has more in shielded hit points sort of representing more efficient shielding technology.

I kind of like the HWK, its stats makes it so that you can fit it with just about all sort of modifications and upgrades. Giving it a shield upgrade makes the most out of the use of shields while hull upgrade gives it immunity from flechette torpedoes. Or you could give it a stealth device to make it agility 3 the (same as tie fighters) which is not half bad.

You say the 2400 is small? I think you hurt it's feelings. It's going to go cry on its tiny pillow!

*plays world's smallest violin*

I'm just going by photos of the models next to each other, but unless the hull of the 1300 was a meter or so thicker than the 2400s there's no way the 2400 has the same cargo capacity, let alone more as Wookiepedia suggests! Maybe there was a resource shortage and they had to make them small...

I don't think the YT series of freighter ever followed logic.
