Rogue Tie Defender for Scum and Villainy!?!

By Plainsman, in X-Wing

What do you guys think about a future release for Scum and Villainy being a Rogue Tie Defender?

Seems like a cool addition to me!!

No. There is plenty of ships for S&V without having to resort to mixing the factions even more.

Scum an villany are basically civian craft. Lots of old or surpluss military gear. But the TIE Defender is not only a military grade ship, but it is litterally the cutting edge of Imperial Military technology. It is about as far from the sort of ship that should be in Scum as you can get.

That would most likely exclude the Defender from an Imperial aces box so I would hope not. I still am hoping for more pilots and a BTL like title.

Heck ya... sorta. You see the ZC use TIE Defenders, they ether need to make squadron b subfaction group rules or flat out make a ZC faction.

Nah, the Defender is not really appropriate for S&V, at least not for several release waves.

We need more Mandal Motors or other non-Seiner, non-Incom ships. The kind of things that the more regular navies either never used or phased out in favor of newer/better versions.

S&V is also the best place for many of the unaffiliated independent powers. A few, like the Chiss, could be better placed with Empire or Rebels, but many of the independent worlds and small interstellar powers would be best placed with S&V.

It's cutting edge and need's expert maintenance that few have experience in so even if a criminal stole one they'd struggle to repair battle damage or the many things that go wrong with any military fighter.

We'd sooner see TIE Uglies. TIE Defenders is a big nonononononono NO!

So far we've seen a repaint of 2 ships for S&V, addition of 2 more to the faction with the Firespray and HWK, and 2 3 new ships with the Aggressor and the StarViper and the M3-A. If there are any further additions in the works, I'd be willing to bet they'll be ships that aren't in the game as yet.

Yes, indeed I did. Good catch. :)

Correct! Hence, I'm thinking they'll try a repaint of a couple of Imperial ships as well! So when I saw a reference to a Tie fighter shooting at a Rogue Tie Defender, it seemed to fit! ;)

Or would a "Rogue Tie Defender" be defecting to the Rebels?? (I'm not up on many ships/lore outside the movies.)

I think they'll want to keep with the bounty hunters and cartel theme for the S&V, so I wouldn't anticipate seeing Imperial repaints any time soon, if at all.

hehe youre welcome ;)

Can't see the Scum somehow getting the Empire's rarest and most advanced starfighter design and not being able to get the rest of the Imperial ships, especially the one that's the third most common thing in the galaxy after hydrogen and stupidity.

Unlikely, Scums are too clever to steal Defenders.... They would target more effective ships first :)

On a more serious note, the entire TIE line is likely beyond reach of 3rd party buyers. Sienar Fleet Systems must get huge profits by supplying exclusively to the empire.

It's probably because of the "rogue" Grand Admiral Zaarin, who attempted a coup against the Emperor around the time of Empire Strikes Back (to install himself as Emperor, not to restore the Republic). He was the head of Imperial Navy starfighter research, so his forces had access to prototype Avengers and Defenders, among other things.

Also, after the Emperor's death the Empire fragments under various "warlords" (officers and moffs seizing power in local sectors) and there is at least as much "Imperial" infighting in the following years as there is combat with the Rebel Alliance/New Republic.

The Zann Consortium's nebulous background and unprecedented technological capabilities aside, "subfactions" already exist within the existing rules framework, although not explicitly so. In the Scum preview articles, the two major "subfactions" seem to be Black Sun and the Hutt Cartels and/or Car'das Smugglers.

Headhunter PS 1 "Binayre Pirate" (A Black Sun-affiliated pirate group.)

Headhunter PS 3 "Black Sun Soldier"

Starviper PS 1 "Black Sun..."

Starviper PS 3 "Black..." (...Sun, you can see their emblem in the card art.)

The paint schemes and generic pilots for these ships all represent Black Sun, and they also share Pilot Skill levels, meaning it will be easier to maneuver them together, since you can choose the order of activations. It isn't an explicit game mechanic, but it will certainly make it easier for people who want to fly specifically Black Sun lists.

Y-Wing PS 2 "Syndicate Thug"

Y-Wing PS 4 "..."

Scyk PS 2 "Cartel Spacer"

Scyk PS 5 "Tansarii Po..." (...int, a space station the Car'das fought over.)

Firespray PS 5 "Manda..." (...lorian, the ultimate bounty hunters.)

This isn't quite as straight forward, as the Most Wanted card fan is larger and blurrier than the others, but the Y-Wing and Scyk are not in Black Sun colors, and have fairly similar paint schemes (dirty hull with red trim). We don't know about the PS 4 Y-Wing, but the PS 2 ships have similar naming conventions, while the Scyk is built by MandalMotors and shares a PS 5 generic with the Firespray (often associated with Mandalorians because of Boba Fett). So PS 2 Y-Wings and Scyks, and PS5 Scyks and Firesprays at least can fly well together.

You can see this in the Alliance somewhat too, along squadron/role lines. For the Alliance, assault starfighters are PS 2/4, while escorts are PS 1/3. This doesn't work quite as well for the Empire, but you can still see it a bit. For example, "Night Beast" and "Winged Gundark" are both in Obsidian Squadron and essentially are Obsidian Squadron Pilots with Veteran Instincts and pilot abilities, while the same is true of "Backstabber", "Dark Curse", and Black Squadron Pilot.

I can't see any Imperial hardware getting into the hands of the Scums and staying intact for long. Considering they like to keep their relationship with the Empire on the nominally neutral to friendly side they wouldn't just steal Empire ships and then use them in their day to day operations.

Narratively speaking, though, I can see one of the stupid rich Scums being able to get a hold of some good Empire tech and keep it around for dire situations. This could work in a custom scenario.

Or how about the N1. You know both the Alliance and the Imperials don't fly that thing it is perfect for S&V.

In the video game TIE FIghter. Scum DID get a missileboat or a TIE Defender. That was really, really their mistake.

No pirate is dumb enough to want to try that twice.

If they did add uglies you could have parts of imperial ships with no complaints.
