It's great news but is there a chance for these games on CD so we can achieve them?
I don't want to bank on a company being in business ten years from today to redownload the games again on a new PC

Looking foward to playing them again; though I recently watched a Let's Play of TIE Fighter (curtesy of Space Game Junkies) and it made me realize just how nostalgia-tinted my view of the game balance, mission design and AI were (esspecially the AI is as dump as two miles of country road, if you pardon the expression)
I'm sad there's no XWA there. I never got to play these two.
On the bright side, now I get to play these.
If this works out, we might just get XWA too; X-Wing and TIE Fighter are easier to port as they are old DOS-games which didn't need much in terms of the interaction with the operating system newer games require to work properly - and they might also be a dry run for a buisness deal between GoG and Disney similarly to the previos deal between LucasArts and Valve (that game us several SW games on Steam)

From GoG you will get a compressed installer file (basically everything that was on the original disk but also including fixes for moderns systems and possibly a compatible DOS-box engine) with no DRM, so after you dl'ed it you can archive it on an extrenal drive, DVD or other storage medium without any fuss; there is no requirement to log in when you want to install or copy it
You just made my day.
The B-wing and Tie Defender in their op glory....hells yes please
Very exciting! I didn't expect it, but I'm incredibly excited - and maybe if it sells well, it will encourage a new game in the same vein!
Approach ISD from the rear fire torpedos into the shield domes then Ionize the **** out of it then say bye bye ISD.
Mowahahaha Mowahahaha
Ah the good old days 3:-)
Yes yes yes, all of this is well and good. But...
Does this mean that GoG will soon have Full Throttle?!?

Reckon this will be exclusive to GoG, or might it come to Steam?
Please, CD-ROM versions with MIDI music PLEASE. Well, if you want to add the textures of the later release, that's ok too!
XWing the minis game is dead to me now!
Long live the PC XWing!!!!
Jk. Lol
I do love these games though.
Best games. Ever

Yeah, the iMuse system really worked a treat. I mean, sure, the later releases had a considerably more 'orchestral' feel to the music, but the lack of the audio cues seamlessly transitioning based on what was happening in the game at the time...that was pretty cool.
Newer gens don't know what they are missing with that...
(And, yeah, I get that it would be REALLY HARD TO DO with music more complex than MIDI, but, seriously, have you seen what 3D rendering is doing these days? Why is audio always the red-headed stepchild in comparison??)
YYEEEEEEESSS!!!!

There are plenty of modern games that do this. What I missed about the original midi music in the Collector's Edition that used X-wing Alliance assets was that the music didn't really fit in TIE Fighter. The orchestral trilogy soundtrack just screams "rebel alliance", and while that works for X-wing and Alliance, it doesn't fit for me flying TIE Fighters blowing up X-wings. The herioic-ified riffs on Imperial themes in the original TIE Fighter though? Hell yeah.
It's my understanding from this that both the original and collector edition versions are going to be bundled in each. In other words, you buy X-wing, you get both the original X-wing(and the expansions), as well as the updated versions using the X-wing Alliance assets, and same for TIE Fighter.

Not really, no - stopping one track and starting another...even "blending" them over each other for a beat or two...really doesn't approach what iMuse was doing.
The nature of MIDI being note-by-note instructions to the system allowed a much more interesting/stepped transition of different music, that simply 'blending' doesn't really allow for.
It was really a pretty clever system!
Very excited. Time to dust off my joystick!
I already have X-Wing and Tie Fighter running on this PC, but I'd easily slap down the $10 for iMuse alone.
That and the much easier install process.
Only 1 hour and 20 minutes until we can DL it ... 2 minutes ago I wasn't excited .. now I would turn away my sexy Mrs in a Slave Leia bikini.
I'm just looking and they have Syndicate plus too... and NWN diamond.
I can see my credit card getting hella use from this.
Now, no more turning my crossfire off to play tie fighter. And no inverted colors. (The win95 version could work on Win7, but just barely.)
If you go to gog.com now, it says "New publisher in ..." (counting down to 9am CST). There are sooooo many good LucasArts games.
OMG Worms United (the best of the worms games...)
Edited by DariusAPBCan't wait to fly wingman for Vader and rescue Palpitine..
