Do you think the Ghost from Rebels should be for S&V?

By JJFDVORAK, in X-Wing

So I have been thinking. I am not sure if any of you have been watching the new cartoon Star Wars Rebels, but I have and I think it is pretty good overall. That being said I feel pretty confident that we will be seeing ships from that series in X wing eventually. Maybe sooner rather than later. On that note, I think that maybe the main ship, the Ghost, should be a large ship for the Scum and Villiany faction instead of the Rebel faction. I know that the show is called Rebels and is all about this small band of Rebels. That said, when you watch the show, the crew of the Ghost are really more like thieves that annoy the Empire sorta like Robin Hood. The show (especially the 2nd episode) feels like a Star Wars version of Firefly and while not entirely parrallel, the main characters are very much "bad guys" who do good things just like the crew of Serenity. So I think that the idea would work. Also at this point the Rebels already have 2 roughly round ships with turrets and now the Imperials have the Decimator, so I think that the S&V could use their own large turreted ship. What do you all think? Am I way of base? Or on to something?

Yes I do, but I don't want the Ghost, I want the Otana.

EDIT: besides, the Ghost is practically large enough to be a huge.

No. I think it is clear that they will join alliance eventually. They were really foreshadowing it in the second episode.

The show IS called Rebels after all. The crew does bad things for good reasons. By now everyone who views this thread should have at least seen the premiere episode. The crew stole weapons to sell (buying intel to save wookies) and food to give away for free. Hardly seems scummy or villianous. The crew is anti empire and made up of good people.

While I don't deny that the scum faction could eventually use a bathtub class vessel, I don't think the vcx-100 from rebels would be a good fit.

There are lots of other ships the scum and villians can pull from, legends wise.

The show is called "Star Wars: Rebels"... and you think that the hero ship should belong to...WHAT faction?

You are right, though... the show is basically Firefly meets Star Wars (or Traveller RPG). But, we are essentially talking about the beginnings of the Rebellion, here, and (I assume) we will see some more development of said rebellion as the show goes on. Nd some other noteworthy Rebels began as smugglers...cheats... scoundrels...

I would assume the ship is not unique, that it is commercially produced and not a "one of a kind". Therefore, it could, theoretically, be used by ANY faction, as could the YT and Firespray, but they are placed in the factions they are because they are iconic ships of those factions. Given the fact that the Ghost is the iconic "hero" ship if "Star Wars:REBELS", I don't really see it belonging to any other faction unless it is a Rebel ship first.

Yeah even though they are thieves, they are not very scummy I will give you that. I just really do not think that the Rebels need another "bathtub class vessel" (read no design space not griping) and therefore it probably will not get made as even a Rebel large, which would be ashame so I was trying to fit it somewhere and S&V need their own Bathtub class. But then again maybe it will get made for the Rebels and just be 1 more similar ship for them to chose from. I am cool with that.

Yeah it is clear that they will eventually join the Alliance. But I want the ship in the game and I am not sure the Rebels will get another "Falcon like" ship as they already have 2 and there is not much design space for a 3rd without being a clone of the 1st two.

Since the crew of the ghost helped creat the rebellion, I can't see them being anything but Rebels.

I do agree that the hero ship in a show called Rebels would seem to belong to the .....da da daa! Rebels. And that alot of famous Rebels started out as fringers. But I also think that the show plans to drag out their turning from fringers to Rebels for a while. The reason I feel this way is because 1, it would be cooler and make for a better show if they were outside the law for a longer time and were kinda like the Robin Hoods of space and 2, I know that Lando is supposed to make an apperance in the show at some point in the future and at this point in time Lando is definitely not a Rebel and anyone who associates with him is also not a Rebel and more likely to be a criminal type. And I just want a "Falconish" ship for S&V and the Ghost is cool. :)

I am not sure if the crew of the Ghost helps create the Rebel Alliance per se. Simon Kinsberg, the executive producer, said in his interview with Starwars.com that they will more likely be like a bunch of farmers fighting on one farm during the American Revolution and not really be aware of how the rest of the war is even going. Just kinda start things but not really be all that involved with the overall grand scheme.

The way I would approach a Ghost release is to release it with both rebel and scum pilots (1 generic and 1-2 named per faction). Yes, the specific ship in question is being flown by a group akin to the rebellion, but the ship type would also be in use by other less desirable outlaws.

On the same note, I would find a way to get some scum pilots out for the YTs too.

No. Why in god's name would the premiere ship of, "Rebels" be Scum?

They have multiple times been addressed as Rebels.

I'm pretty sure they're rebel.

If the ghost is released it will be a REBELS only ship. Anyone saying it could be scum obvo doesn't get the point. And... While I get the point that a mass produced ship may be bought by a scummer, empire or Rebel the fact remains its a rebel ship. On the last REBELS episode I watched, some "rebels" pinched a tie fighter. FFG ain't gonna go give rebels tie fighters, just because some rebels have been seen flying one are they. Also I think it's worth pointing out that regardless whether or not this small band of rebels is anything to do with the rebellion that overthrows the galactic empire, they are rebels because they are rebelling against the system.

Yeah, I agree with that. I guess we'll have to wait and see how big of a role they play in the start of the rebellion. I'm really enjoying the show so far. "Rise of the old masters" was really good. :-)

Not all rebels were part of the rebel alliance and some of these groups were pretty ruthless going alot further than others in the name of galactic freedom.

Having the more extreme rebel groups under s&v makes sense so yeah putting the ghost in there makes more sense than having a third big turret ship in the rebels.

A simple cross-marketing tactic would be to release the Ghost after S&V is established, but do something different and include both Rebel AND Scum pilot cards for it. It gives the Rebels the option of using Hera as a pilot, but also would be enticing for dedicated S&V players too.

What we need is HBO to make a show called Imperials. ... or even put it on Fox.. saw some show a few weeks ago that was about WWII. Battle with aliens like a real documentary was pretty cool. Might have been on BBC.

Just because you are A rebel doesn't mean you are part of the Alliance to Restore the Republic, technically Black Sun and Jabba's empire are rebels as well. Just based on the first 4 episodes I've seen, they don't seem to have the same super high moral standards as rebels do. (e.g. selling disruptors to a gun runner, is something the Alliance would NEVER do). But again I really want to see the Otana before the Ghost.

One setup long episode and two regular episodes in. How about you let the characters develop before you write them off as Scum and Villainy?

No kidding they are gonna be Rebels. I stated that in the OP. But they also have a thieving theme going on (again in the OP) and the Rebels do not need another turreted large ship but the S&V could use one.(Again that was stated in the OP) I am sorry if I didn't make my point clear. I was trying to say that since the Rebels already have 2 turreted pancake ships, maybe since these Rebels are kinda scummy anyway, maybe S&V could have this one, really just so we get it in the game.

I am sorry I didn't get the point. I am not sure what point you are refering too exactly. Maybe the point that the show is called Rebels and that it follows a small group of Rebels? Oh wait I got that point because I stated it in the OP. Or maybe I missed the point that the Ghost should in technically be made into a Rebel ship based on the fact that it is piloted by Rebels in the show? Nope stated that in the OP too. I think that you missed my point, that I stated in the OP, of that the crew of the Ghost is kinda scummy(thieving, selling weapons, dealing with underworld business men, etc.) and even though they will be Rebels, maybe since the Rebels already have two turreted large ships, maybe the S&V could have this one. If there is another point that I missed let me know. Thanks

I agree with this. I have not written them off as S&V. And I am sure that as the show goes on, the characters will face more and more of a moral dilema when it comes to their thieving and being "scummy" I just think that we will see the ship introduced into the game before Rebels Season 4 or whenever they become full fledged members of the Rebel Alliance/start the Rebel Alliance/ or how ever they become affiliated. And again I think that S&V could use a turreted large and Rebels have no need of one.

The S&V turreted ship should be the Otana.

Here's an apple, shouldn't this orange be a banana?

Thank you for seeing the whole point of this thread!!!

I agree. Releasing the Ghost as a Rebel and S&V ship could work. They already did that with 3 Rebel ships and 1 Imperial ship anyway. Should be no problem. And to make them play different give the S&V version the illicit option and the Rebel version the Ghost title. Sounds good to me.
