Lore Question about TIE Pilots and their gear.
Otherwise like i say the hose and chest box are totally superfluous.
Not superfluous, SCIENCE-Y!

That reminds me, after seeing SW a Russian space explorer had TIE Fighter built and made space worth. She got to use it in space and it looked true too the movie version.

Sorry I meant to say they had TIE FIGHTER GEAR made for them when they went into space. No TIE Fighters have been built that are space worth yet. And like posted before it looked true to the gear seen in the movies.
It always made more sense to me with the royal guard pilots that they are exactly that, pilots. I tend to think of them as top teir interceptor pilots chosen for their skill and loyalty to protect the emporer in space, just as their counterparts do on the ground. I have never though of it as red bodyguard in robe dons flight gear and climbs in the cockpit. To be both an elite hand to hand bodyguard and an elite pilot seems....unlikely. so, that's the way I work the fluff in my head anyway.
To try to translate it into modern military terms, Rangers, special forces, Seals, they are not pilots, they continually train to do what they do. that requires focus, concentrating in a few core disciplines. Marksmanship, communication, medical, etc. Those guys don't cross train to be pilots. to put it another way, would you take one of your very best tie aces and make him a ground pounder? No, he is too valuable doing what he is doing.
while on the subject, I always found it odd that the tie has that huge viewport, then the pilot is squinting out of those tiny holes in the helmet. a large visor like a motorcycle helmet makes so much more sense, but admittedly might not look as cool.

That anyone is admitting to, anyway...
