Welcome to NOVA Squadron Radio! This week we joined by two VERY special guests, 2012 World Champion Doug Kinney and 2013 World Champion Paul Heaver! The guys are on the show to discuss the upcoming 2014 Worlds Championship! First, in the Flight Deck we discussed what we have been flying lately, including some TCO news. Then, it was on to tournament talk with Paul and Doug where they discussed the Worlds Collide tournament they both recently played in. Did I mention that Paul Heaver and Doug Kinney are on the show? I am pretty sure I did...

You'll all look like fools when a hwk wins at world's. A shuttle won nationals you know!

I know I was really shocked to see a HWK make it that far.

I is probably based on my experience with that ship to be honest with you. The HWK is brought in for support, either to Abuse Kyle Focus Farm or Jans ability to make some other pilot amazing. So, recognizing that as a lynch pin to the squad, I focus it down so that its ability only ever fires once or twice and that is it.

They just seem so fragile for a finesse ship, and in the current game, that 1 Attack Dice is really hard to swallow.

Now, in larger games, or Epic scale, I have seen HWKs do amazing things, but in a standard 100 point game, I just do not see the value in them.

Call me crazy, I'd rather have a B-Wing for the points!

What is that Dom list in the video?

Great show guys. I wound not be surprised to see a HWK in the top rounds at worlds. There's several good support roles that they can fill now that fit the meta. Roak's ability is very strong against those PS 11 Han's.

Agreed frog. In this high ps meta, Roark is definitely a player.

Roark with Ion Turret and Chewie (Crew)

3X Blue Squadron Pilots with Fire Control Systems

This squad is quite strong, and not easy to take down. It plays strong agains the Fat Han builds with the FCS, but it can also do very well against a Phantom. You can do a modified version of the Death Blossom that Doug created, and use Roaks ability to give which ever Blue has an Arc on the Phantom PS 12. Works Quite Well. This is a squad I'm considering for Worlds.

I am a big fan of Chewie on the HWK, makes it a bit more durable, and Roark's ability is key on getting the jump on Han and Whisper.

I just can't wrap my head around a HWK being good in the current meta...man have the tables turned!

Man. I was so talking about Roark + Ion Cannon Turret + Chewbacca being a nice setup just after wave 3 came out. I think I had even computed its jousting value! I wish I could dig up the original links. Glad to see it only took a year to catch on... and PSS9/11 bids to make Roark attractive, ha ha ha...

MJ, some builds are good, but the timing just isn't right for them. In this high PS war, Roak is getting noticed and can play a strong role now.
