Sound App leads to Epic Play

By heychadwick, in X-Wing

Thursday nights are my normal game nights and I was playing with my regular opponent at the back of the store. I use a Star Wars sound app most of the time to spice things up. It’s got little clips of Tie Fighter and other noises, plus parts of the various songs. It’s just hysterical to play a little dramatic music at the start of a turn, or if my Tie Fighter does an epic 3 dodge I’ll put on the little Tie Fighter swoop noise. It’s loud enough to be heard through a lot of the store and I usually get smiles from everyone around.

Well, last night was no different. What happened, though, is a guy who was totally new to the store came in the back to see what the heck was going on. He seemed really interested in the game and for our 2nd game, we let him play a demo….with the sound app going, of course. Well, we got a couple more people hovering around. One guy had just bought some blisters and had only really played with his dad. Another was between board games and unsure, but his friends told him it was a great game. I asked who wanted to play and got a slew of people. I have been planning for demoing an epic game at a local con and had everything ready to go. We started a 6 person Epic game!

CR90 w/ 2 quad lasers

Rookie w/ Proton Torpedoes

Red Squadron w/ Proton Torpedoes

Y-wing w/ Ion Turret

B-wing w/ Ion Cannon

Tie Bomber w/ Proton Torpedoes, Cluster Missiles, and 2 x Tie Fighters

Shuttle w/ HLC and 2 Tie fighters

2 x Tie Advanced w/ Proton Rockets

2 x Tie Interceptors

Most people hadn’t played much before (if at all) and after a primer we got started! I used the sound effects during the whole thing and made everyone laugh. It was a fantastic game and I’ve just got a fat grin on my face this morning after last night. Overall, the Imperials went in piece meal and got chewed up. We didn’t concentrate our fire. Killed an X-wing and B-wing only. Tantive IV had lost 4 hull in the front and 1 in rear and an X-wing was barely holding together, but the Rebels won. The CR90 was mean! 5 dice firing and then 3 dice with re-rolls. It got ugly.

For those wondering what app I'm using, it's called Star Wars Sound Set 1 and it's on Android. No idea about Apple. With all the apps, I had to actually google it with quotation marks: "star wars sound set 1". It's $1. There is a free version, but it has pop up ads at times and can really ruin it when trying to use on the fly during a game. I emailed the guy and asked for a pay version. He made this for just a buck. Well worth it. It's got a lot of sound effects and music, but you just save the ones you want to FAVORITES and have a page of game worth stuff.

I just looove the sound app, though I do try to moderate myself to not make people tired of it at events.

What is the name of this app?

Thanks,

I got one of the free sound board apps too! Very happy, much fun, wow. The dice app by ffg also serves the same function:)

Could someone please link to the app.

Cannot find it

I use the X-Wing Soundboard for Android.

My work blocks the site for me, so I can't check it out right now. Still, I just googled "star wars sound set 1" and it came up. I did buy it over a year ago and maybe it's not around? I'm not sure.

How is that? It is custom built for X-wing, but I read the notes. He said he doesn't have any Tie Fighter noises. Also, I wasn't sure if it was actual X-wing sounds or someone making the sounds.

Thats a pretty small epic game.

200 pts. It was meant to be a primer for new people. It worked.
