Nice trade on your part it sounds like
The funny thing is he is the one who suggested the trade for three of my games. I felt the trade was quite uneven so I threw in another game he had expressed interest in a while back. It obviously didn't even it out but it made me feel a little better. I think he just felt the game wasn't for him and wanted to get something back for his investment without going through the hassle of trying to sell it.

What games did you trade? Curious to know what a full X-wing Miniature collection goes for on the table top scene. ![]()

The games he asked for were Wrath of Ashardalon, Legend of Drizzt and Runebound. The game I added was Talisman.

I was all agreeable with that trade until you tossed in Talisman. Have you tried it with any expansions? I just got the city expansion and I have a blast playing it with my wife. It's like playing a multiyear RPG in 3-4 hours.

I liked Talisman but it wasn't getting any play at my house. I figured with it in his collection I might get to play it occasionally.
I manged to introduce my wife and almost 9 year old daughter to the game this weekend. I figured we'd do the basic scenario of Luke w/Proton Torpedoes and R2-F2 vs. Mauler Mithel w/Marksmanship and Night Beast. This was the scenario my friend used to show me the game. My daughter wanted to play with me and wanted Mauler so I got Beast and my wife played Luke. It was a stalemate for a while with lots of evading on both ends. Finally Luke got behind Mauler and took her out. I was in poor position and was taken out a couple rounds later. I wanted to play more but I had got my wife a few board games for her birthday so they both wanted to try out some of those.
They both seemed to enjoy it. I'm itching to play something more advanced. I can probably get my wife to play up to three ships but probably not more than that. Maybe we'll start with some 50 point games and go from there. I need to get down to my FLGS that has X-Wing time on Tuesday nights. Not the best night for me but maybe I can meet one or two people that may want to get together to play occasionally.
If you are able to make it you should have no problem finding someone to play against. Bringing your gear might be an issue as you seem to have a big kit of stuff. I would go in with just a squad or two to start. Get to know whose there and the atmosphere.
And GL.
Does sound like you will need to get a Plano case or something to carry your collection in now.

Actually I didn't mention it in my original post but the stuff was all organized into 6 Plano cases when we made the swap. I need to find a decent lightweight duffle bag or such to transport them or other board games when I go to events.
Hockey bag or gym bag. Go to a 2nd hand/play store and get one on the cheap.
huh. i stuffed my entire collection into a single two-layered clear/red plano. Plano 5231
4 X
2 B
3 Z
2 E
1 A
1 HWK
soon: Falcon
5 Ties
5 Ints
5 Bombers
3 Def
2 Phantom
1 Lambda
soon: Firespray
1 Tie adv
plus two range rulers, one set of templates, 1 damage deck, 6 asteroids, 1 sharpie, 1 lego ship, all of the bases and stands, all of the dials and baseplates in the same slots as each ship, and enough tokens to run about 500 pts of ships.
Do I get the award for most crammed? Most of the ships still have their plastic packaging for further protection too =)
And since everything is placed along with the model itself, finding the right parts is incredibly fast.
Hoping to ask a friend to saw out one section to add the Decimator, but that might be an extremely tight fit for everything else.

Hi All,I just acquired a decent size X-Wing collection via trade with a person who decided the game wasn't for him. This is what I got:14 Tie Fighters8 X-Wings4 A-Wings4 B-Wings4 Tie Intercepters2 Millennium Falcons2 Y-Wings2 Tie Advanced2 Tie Bombers2 Slave 11 HWK-2901 Lambda ShuttleI've only played the game a couple times with him so I don't have a lot of experience with it yet. My question is this...How many of each ship that I have do I really need? 14 Tie Fighters and 8 X-Wings seems a little excessive. What is the considered the 'standard' number for those two? The ships that I have four of is there really any advantage to having more than two? Same with the Falcon and Slave, do I really need more than one. I'll mostly be playing this casual but if I really get into it I could possibly try out tournament play. Also, I will try and trade for or purchase at least one of each ship I currently don't have except for the Transport and Tantive. Are there ones I should focus on first and are there any where more than one would be highly recommended? Thanks!
Welcome to the game and the forums!
Everyone else has already given good advice, so I'll just add my question:
Who buys all of this, and then just decides the game "isn't for him"? I know collectors and die-hard fans of the game that don't have collections this large. I would have thought that the disinterest would have kicked in long before buying the sixth (!) starter set.
Just something to note.......some of these ships have nice upgrades. You might want to keep 2 Falcons, just for the 2 Engine Upgrades. You might want to keep more than 1 Y-wing for the R2 Astromech. Slave 1 has the Proximity Mine that no one else does (and is better with the latest FAQ). So, I would say think a little before you get rid of excess ships.
In my opinion, it might be best to find a friend who likes the game and sell THEM the extra ships. You get some money back and you don't lose access to them all.
Also, look into Epic games. It's just a ton of fun to fly a bunch of generics at each other.
Let me start out by saying welcome. You are about to have an amazing adventure. I think that is awesome that you get to start out with such a nice sized fleet.
Now onto responding.... I would keep everything, and build from there. You may never play Epic or field 14 tie fighters, that is true, but having extra ships will allow you to play with friends who don't have the game. There are very strong builds that you can use two YT-1300's, and even a solid 3-Firespray build. Plus the many options you have going on here. I guess my point is that I would wait to downsize until you figure out what you, as a player, would fly. Plus, if I assume correctly, you know how to paint miniatures...and having custom ships looks pretty cool.
About what to get next...In an earlier post, Spider said look into your pilot cards to see if you have "Howlrunner" (Tie Fighter), and he is right, but also look for "Wedge Antilies" (X-Wing). They both come in their respective expansions, and those also come with "upgrade cards" you would like to have available to you that you can't get anywhere else.
After that, when it comes to adding, I usually start off with one of each, if not two. The way I fly, I like to run ships in pairs. Getting at least one of each is a must because of how the upgrade cards come with specific ships. (Until the E wing, I only had one Advanced Sensors card, which came with the Lambda, so when I needed more I had to borrow from friends). My goal is to be able to have enough of each ship to field as many of that same ship in 100 points. Ex: 4 X wings will fit into 100 points, but 5 will not.
When it comes to storage and whatnot, that is another monster alltogether. I started with a small plano tackle box, outgrew that, upgraded to a bigger one, then outgrew that. It happens to us all. I came to a point to where I just use the plano storage cases, and a couple of tubs with lids for the loose and big stuff, and went and got a large duffle bag. Now upgrading will only consist of getting more storage cases (less than $10 each), and at some point a new bag..maybe even a suitcase on wheels. hahaha I found the large duffle I am using at a thrift store for 8 bucks.
I hope this helps some. Feel free to ask questions. Believe me, you will have them. lololol
It has been exactly one year since I got the starter box for my birthday, and the people in this community have been amanzing. They will make you feel like you should have been playing this game a long time ago...no pun intended. haha
Hope to see you at tourny some day....and, "I don't know, fly casual."
Edited by E11EVENThe guy who traded me the stuff bought into it before really trying it out. I think he just read reviews and watched videos and got hooked that way. Plus he bought twice as much so his adult son (who also didn't get into the game) would have the exact same stuff for playing games against each other.
I don't plan on trading or selling any ships yet. I want to play around with everything for now and see how it goes. I'm planning on grabbing one of each of the Z95s, E-Wings, Phantoms, and Defenders over the next few weeks to play around with them too. Eventually I'll add both Aces packs.
Once again thanks for the warm welcomes and great information everyone!
