New to Game
7-8 ties should be sufficient.
4 x-wings would seem to be enough, though 3 would be adequate as well
Most other ships, having at least 2 is not unreasonable. In general, you'll want more of the smaller, faster ships. With the ones you have 4 of, 4 seems like a reasonable number to have.
As for new stuff to get, you have none of the phantom, defender, e-wing or z-95. Depending on which faction you like to play you may want to get some of those.
Are any of your interceptors alternate paint schemes? Imperial aces had some new pilots and upgrades for interceptors that you might want. Looking at your list, it doesn't look like your friend was still buying when rebel aces came out, so there is that as well. And, of course, we are expecting the outrider and decimator to be released soon.

4 x wings
Feel free to trade me a Falcon and a Firespray =D PM me what you might want.
And you should probably get one more Bomber.
As for upcoming waves:
2 phantoms
3 defenders
4 or 5 Zs
2 E
1 Decimator
1 YT2400 (I'm not getting this one because I'm petulant about it)
Ask someone else about SV. I don't really care that much.
If you go into Epic games I believe you could field 12 of a given ship although for 100 point standard games here's what I'm thinking:
TIE Fighters: 7-8 are enough provided you have one Expansion (Howlrunner) in there.
X-Wing: Can only fit 4 into a squadron. Best way to get 4 would be core (x2), expansion, transport
TIE Advanced: Barring some future buff this is generally a "one is plenty" ship as even Vader is rarely used anymore.
You could field 4 B-Wings, A-Wings, or Interceptors. While you can field that many you usually see fewer flown together although Rebel Aces may make A-Wings more popular as a swarm fighter. While you want an Interceptor expansion for its pilots you also want Imperial Aces for the pilots in there.
Potentially usable as a 2 of I generally think a TIE Bomber squadron wants 3 of them. You may see 3 Firespray flown together but 2 is plenty there. The Shuttle is a tricky beast and some have tried flying 4 although 1 should often be enough.
I just got into the game about a month ago and asked the same thing. One big question that will influence the answer you get is areyou going to be providing all of the ships or will your opponents have their own squads? Since I have to provide sships for both sides here is what I am planning on getting on top of what I already have (current haves are in my signature). Another Imperial and Rebel Aces, another Falcon for engine upgrades, another Tie Defender, another Tie Bomber, 3 more Tie Fighters, and one more Tie Advanced. I will probably get another Y-Wing as I like them even though they have not worked out well for me.
At least 2 of each expansion will give you enough upgrade cards to supply 2 sides. I would not get more than 1 transport and 1 Tantive IV. One of each of the those should be enough. The ships I have or are getting more than 2 of I really enjoy flying and have list builds comprised of just those ships (which tend not to work out so well in tournaments but are fun for casual).
Having been in a similar spot where you are not too long ago, I know how you feel. Hope this helps.
The 14 TIEs and 8 X-Wings makes me think that that collection was being used to furnish the ships for both sides and that they wanted to be able to run mirror matches. 7 TIE is a pretty standard number for a swarm to have and 4 X-Wings is the most you can field for 100 points.
You've got a hell of a start and will be able to build a lot of strong lists. I'd play a bunch of games with what you've got and and base your next purchases on what you like to play and the cards and ships you see that will match that.
Thanks for the replies.
I've got a lot of research ahead as I really have only scratched the surface of this game. I need to spend some time going over all the cards. I'd like to try and put together some of my own lists from the stuff I've got and play around with that for a bit. Then I can eventually see how they compare to recommended lists based on my ships. I'll probably purchase one of each of the smaller ships I don't have so I can get a feel for them too. There is a store not too far from me that has weekly open game time for X-Wing so I'll probably hit that occasionally too.
With what you have listed here is a tool you can use to gain a better idea.
Thanks for the replies.

When just starting I've found that it is best to concentrate on adding abilities and upgrades that will be able to used every round or every other round. There's a lot of stuff to remember while you are playing so minimizing the number of triggers that you need to watch out for helps you get the most out of the points you've spent. An upgrade you forget to use is points you didn't get any value out of.
DECENT sized?!?!? Sir, with proper training, you will be able to out-blast those of us who have a limited income. Out-flying is a different story, but probably not if I'm concerned. ![]()
Welcome to X-wing!
Welcome to the X-wing Miniatures addiction.
You will have fun with this game. Fun theorycrafting builds, fun winning, fun losing, fun almost losing but pulling it out of the exploding death star II to get the win.
Yes welcome and i promice you will have fun here. I have to agree with the previous poster for me part of the fun is crafting outside the box builds.
Welcome OP, I notice your friend had no tie defenders so I'd put at least one on your shopping list along with a phantom.
Wow that is a nice score.....wow just wow!!
With what you have, you have plenty to host mirror matches or even your own tourney with some mates.
If you were to buy one ship I will suggest getting a Z-95 headhunter, having the option of a 12 point ship for your rebel side could help alot with your builds.
Second ship would be a phantom as it's something that you eventually face and it's important to know how it moves if your to have a chance of catching it. Also its **** fun to fly.
Of course having all the ships is a good end result :-)
I like your 3 Lambdas, Stego.
I like to have enough of each ship that I could field the standard 100 point game with nothing but that ship at its minimum. I also only play imperials, though I will play scum when they are released.
This means for example I have 8x Ties (12 points each at the cheapest so 96 together), 3x Firesprays (33 points or 99 together), 4x Tie Phantoms (25 naked, 100 together). I think you get the idea.
Edited by AverageBossHi Mainiac,
First off, welcome aboard. ![]()
I think you certainly have enough to play with for a while. by the looks of it, you've got quite a bit more than I do. If I were in your shoes, I'd be giving what you've got a good amount of play before investing further. Eventually, you'll figure out what you like, and if you need more, you'll get more.
Myself, I really like the TIE Bomber, and as a result I have four of them. But I see very few people flying bombers. On the other hand, I really have little use for the E-Wing, Phantom or the Defender, as they just don't sit well with me thematically. YMMV, of course.
But yeah, for now you have a broad collection. Have fun with it.
I like your 3 Lambdas, Stego.
Cheers, so do I.
I love my space cows, really keen to get a fourth.....
LAMBDA'S FTW

Seriously, if I had the extra 60$ id get 3 more lambdas.
Hi All,
I just acquired a decent size X-Wing collection via trade with a person who decided the game wasn't for him. This is what I got:
14 Tie Fighters
8 X-Wings
4 A-Wings
4 B-Wings
4 Tie Intercepters
2 Millennium Falcons
2 Y-Wings
2 Tie Advanced
2 Tie Bombers
2 Slave 1
1 HWK-290
1 Lambda Shuttle
I've only played the game a couple times with him so I don't have a lot of experience with it yet. My question is this...How many of each ship that I have do I really need? 14 Tie Fighters and 8 X-Wings seems a little excessive. What is the considered the 'standard' number for those two? The ships that I have four of is there really any advantage to having more than two? Same with the Falcon and Slave, do I really need more than one. I'll mostly be playing this casual but if I really get into it I could possibly try out tournament play. Also, I will try and trade for or purchase at least one of each ship I currently don't have except for the Transport and Tantive. Are there ones I should focus on first and are there any where more than one would be highly recommended?
Thanks!
Just curious, you don't mention if you got the range rulers, dice and other starter set gubbins. Given all those x's and ties it looks like the guy bought loads of starter sets.
Make sure you have the "howl runner" card. There are a couple of "left behind" ships and upgrades, but for the most part power creep isn't a huge thing in this game. Back to Howlrunner, she is one the best ships an empire fleet an use despite being wave 1. If you haven't got that card, get it. Even if you need to buy another tie fighter.
Also to add, defenders and phantoms are great. Just at least one of each.
Happy flying:)
... orrr. considering i stole your identity. maybe im someone who thinks like you!
Welcome to the game! ![]()
Your collection is actually quite the big one. ![]()
If you are a collector you can expand with the types previously mentioned by our fellow forum members.
If you wish to have enough to fill 100 pts with a single type, or use 12 TIE´s in Epic play, you´re right on track.
If you wish to play tournaments you could ditch some TIE´s, X´s, a Falcon, a Slave I, and an Advanced.
If you are mainly a casual player and are overwhelmed with the amount of miniatures and cards you can downsize to about 3 X´s, 5 TIE´s 1 of each large one, and 2 of anything else that you like.
Many will want to help you get rid of the extra material ![]()
Personally I wouldn't recommend down sizing until you know what you want from the game.
As others have noted do make sure you have the tie pilot howlrunner and x-wing pilot Wedge
Too of the best in the game
I might have to add I answered from a personal point of view.
I am more inclined to the more casual variety.
The game is very adictive, I do make several squads just for the fun of it, but I do not have the inclination to own each and every type in large amounts. One Falcon is brilliant, but I don´t see the necessity of owning two. Nor why I should have 14 TIE´s or 8 X-Wings, as I will never use that many.
Selling some unused material could help acquiring a Phantom, Decimator, Rebels Aces, or Scum&Villainy for bringing variety.
If, however, you love collecting, sure go ahead. No disrepect intended in this or my previous post! ![]()
Again thanks for the replies and welcomes. Looks like a great community here!
Still haven't had a chance to play yet but will be teaching the wife this weekend. I've been spending my time inventorying everything I got. So far the only discrepancies are an extra stress token and extra Bomber pilot cards of Rhymer, Jonus and Gamma Squad. I guess he either got dupes of those cards or he had an extra Bomber that disappeared with it's Scimitar Squad card though I have nothing else in the inventory that would account for an extra Bomber either so that's odd. He had six Starter Sets and I only have 4 Range Rulers and 1 Rules Book along with 2 Quick Start Guides. I also only have one Mission Guide each for the Falcons and Slaves. Not a big deal considering I traded four board games worth maybe $250 for the collection (one was out of print and worth about $125).
