Ok. I ordered a Rebel Transport from a local online store (Australia) and they made a mistake and sent me a Tantive IV instead. Nice you say!

As I am an honest person, I emailed them about the mistake and they advised that either I can keep it or send it back and get it replaced. I thought about it quite a bit as the cards you get with it are pretty good, but you can only use about 5 with your other ships, the rest are for huge ships only or the Tantive.

So I decided, that really don't need it and offered it to a friend as a swap for a Rebel Transport, he thought about it too, he really wants it for the C3PO card, but again he decided that he really didn't need it either. So I sent it back. Whhhhyyyyyyyy you say!

My question to you all is loosely linked these huge ships, would you actually buy a huge ship or any ship just for the cards? $100 for the Tantive IV seems like you are purchasing a giant dust collector...

I think the small ships like the Falcon and Decimater are great, you can easilly field them in a 100 or 150pt battle, but these huge ships seem a little awkward to play with reguarly, so in the end, are you basically getting them for the cards?

If you paid full price for it.. I'd keep it. Haha.

I got a transport dirt cheap and got it mostly for the X wing and cards. I have not ever played a Epic game, and probably won't. I may use it for terrain in a game just to see what fun I can have with that. lol.

I did plan to use it for a scenario about rebs escorting a damaged ship back to base. it would be little more than terrain in the game.

but I'm not worried about it, I knew I probably wouldn't do epic games.. and have no real desire to..

I'm still waiting on news of what the Imperial huge ship will be, let alone thinking of fielding it.

I have owned my tantive for at least 2-3 months and played it 3 times, which is more than I used my ork killbursta (forgeworld tank fo 40k) that cost me near $200 and was lucky to use it 1-2 times a year during an apocalypse battle.

on the other hand I have had the transport longer and havnt used it yet.

I enjoy using them very much when we do in fact et the opportunity.

I wish that opportunity was more often though.

I don't get to play Epic much. I would really like to. I won my Tantive IV at Chicago Regionals, and then felt compelled to buy the Rebel Transport. Haven't flow the transport yet, but I've played with the Tantive IV in quite a few games. Honestly, so many people have the huge ships that I can't remember whose we used, and from that point of view, I probably could have done without them. Even when I do play Epic, I'm on an Imperial kick right now, and it's my opponent playing the huge ships.

I'm really interested in scenario play, including Epic scenarios, and I'd love to play more than I do. When I consider that the Rebel Transport is almost the same price as Armada will be, I think to myself, "I already have plenty of fighters, so I'll probably just stick to Epic X-wing instead of buying into Armada." The only thing stopping me will be finding people who feel the same way. I worry that those interested in Epic play now will jump ship, and I'll be stuck with Huge ships I never get to fly.

Right now I'm mulling over whether it is worth buying a transport just to get the X-wing pilots. I'm leaning no. I could play epic, but I prefer skirmish.

We play campaigns, and have used the Tantive 2 times and GR-75 twice. They are a lot of fun, but games with them require more time. so If you plan to play any be aware of that.

I've given both the Tantive and the Rebel Transport a test run.

Might be playing a lot more games with then, very soon.

I've flown my transport twice and my corvette once so far...but I've used them often as scenery,as a guy who gets sick of asteroids all the time, I think they're worth it just for use as scenery.

do yourself a favour and play some scenario games, the tantive campaign especially its soooo much more satisfying than meaningless 100 point death matches.

You feel like you're playing a part in a movie rather than just trying to win.

Tantive was bought to play campaigns and scenarios... transport was really bought more for completeness and a different xwing, i was pleasantly surprised there are good pilots in there but tbh I usually fly Garvin and Wedge as xwingpilots, i've yet to find much need for anyone else as a named pilot.

Despite the fact that it's unarmed, the Transport can be a lot of fun to play. It opens up lots of interesting synergies and action economies, and the Jamming action is great!

I've played one game with the Tantive IV and it was pretty fun. It made me go out and get one (online at a discounted price).

This very weekendd I'm getting together with old college friends to play some X-wing. They have played a few times, but don't own anything. They like the game, but aren't willing to really get into it. Most of them live out of town. I'm pulling them all together to drink beer and play a big epic game with all my ships. It should be fun!

I've also decided to host 3 games at a local gaming convention. It's traditionally been board games and role playing games, but I'm going to run the same event 3 times over the weekend. 200 pts vs 200 pts with the Tantive IV as the focus of it all (well, I think it's a few over for each side). I'm using my game day with friends to play test it. No unique pilots and very few upgrades. It has to be simple enough be played by a new person in 4 hours. Each player gets 50 pts.

The way I see Epic games is when you want to do something with more than 2 players, you want to break out of regular tournament play, or you want to sucker new people into the game. Ever have the game night when an odd number show up? Instead of just shunting the side guy out of the way, why not run an epic game?

Get sick of the "meta"? Tired of it just being Phantoms and Falcons and Swarms? Try an epic game. It's a great way to just break out of the norm. Use things that would normally suck, but are great in epic. Play scenarios. Make it a different game with the same rules. It's actually pretty fun. Maybe most of your ships are blasted to pieces, but you managed to complete the objective and win!

Epic games at the front of the store are also great ways to get people into the game. Or....in your neighborhood. Get a bunch of your neighbors that aren't really gamers, but get some beer and play an epic game. Who can say no to beer and fighting a big Star Wars game? I've gotten some neighbors into the game that way.

I have only ever flown my epics once. First, not many players here locally own the Eipcs for starters. Second, the game itself is very focused on the Standard games, and not many players have an interest in playing Epic.

I would like to play mine more, to make me 'feel' like I didn't buy my CR-90 for just 3P0!

I get to play them from time to time on epic format. But had a blast playing a 125 points game with the transport... surprised me how playable it was with so few points !

300 points is for me the major advantage / desadvantage of epic: lots of ships makes a whole different situation, but it takes so much more time (so much more room !), it's less easy to organize than normal 100 points.

I think the game is focussed on standard games if thats the way you want to see it.

We have a fairly large group of gaming friends we play 60 point games, 100 point standards, scenarios, epci (if you can call 200 points a side epic) etc

Mostly scenario play though.

I'll grant you that the impression you get on here which seems to attract tourny players is that that is the 'focus' of the game but for every core set sold to someone who is tourny focussed, i'd imagine there are ten sold to people who just play however they like and use the scenarios you get with the core game and larger expansions.

We find a good game for four of us to play is around 160 points a side or 80 points each with two imperial and two rebel players in the game.

Played an Epic game with each huge ship thus far and recently completed the Escape from Hoth campaign.

They are loads of fun and offer a nice change up from the standard death match scenarios.

The only issue that I had with my group is that I supply all of the ships and my friends aren't too familiar with pilot abilities/upgrades so list building was a little tedious. It's best to make the rosters yourself: keeping special abilities to a minimum is key.

My only gripe with the Tantivie campaign is that some of the maps break away from the 3 x 3 format which requires a bigger space/bigger table. Grrr.

I kind of wish huge ships were allowed in standard play rules, but as long as your opponent allows it in casual, it seems like it could be fun to run a rebel transport with a fat YT-1300 or YT-2400 that has dash as a crew member. Eaden Vrill could be interesting, since he can capitalize on the jam action.

Ah i never found that a problem as i have an 8 by 4 cloth starfield and a big dining room table.

We just use masking tape to edge of the area we need.

I dont think GW still make them but they were about UK £5 around 2005 for use with the battlefleet gothic game but only GW us stocked them.

I had a few sent over as management samples and kept one.

I've flown my CR-90 once, I really just got it to repaint it. My Transport has been sitting on the shelf since it arrived, though Porkins is the only X-Wing pilot I use on anything like a regular basis.

I bought a $3 black plastic table cloth from Walmart and some various spray paints to make nebulas. I then flicked white paint for stars over the whole thing with a paint brush.

Well, I suppose if you reeeeeaaaally can't afford it (the price of the transport) then fair enough, but I'd certainly have kept it. The model's awesome!

To answer your question though, I got one as soon as they came otu and I've played with it three times (would be twice if my friend had his own).

I've used mine for 3 games so far. It isn't something we do often, and usually only when we want something different but still XWing. Unfortunately we're not playing XWing as often anymore, so even an epic game is much less likely now.

Short of that, I doubt I would have bought them just for the upgrade cards I can use for the smaller ships. But I'm glad I have them.

I try to play an epic game every chance I get. Unfortunately, those chances are few and far between, though I've got one scheduled for Sunday.

I've been enjoying the 6a100pntDMs more than I thought I would, but mostly because of the social aspect and the tactical challenge. However, I've really been wanting more narrative depth these days, honestly. I think the huge ships offer many more great opportunities for playing narrative battles and campaign than the usual fare.
