A Threat to Falcons and Phantoms

By barabelsftw, in X-Wing

So here's a list I want to try out. It seems like something that might do well against both a falcon with 3po and phantom lists. Wedge at PS11 can shred a phantom uncloaked and even cloaked has a good chance of making something stick and denies falcons the benefit of 3po. Even if wedge goes down, jan can help the z-95 get good hits in. What do you think?

Jan Ors + Nien Nub + Squad Leader + Ion Cannon Turret (33)

Wedge + VI (30)

Biggs (25)

Bandit Squadron Pilot (12)

How about sapping Squad Leader for VI so you can ion a phantom before it can cloak. Gives you a point to use elsewhere, too.

Not a bad Idea. Maybe swap out nub for kyle or tactician then as well?

Wait nevermind kyle is 3 points.

Wedge doesn't deny C-3PO because C-3PO will just trigger on another ship's attack. Still provides its 5/8 of an evade.

I flew something similiar.

Jan Ors Ion Cannon

Wedge Predator R2

Biggs

Bandit

Biggest issue my build had was that phantoms can occasionally get in an order before Wedge. However it ate YT-1300 and most phantom builds.

I ended up switching to Roark with Ion to get a guarranty of going first and still give Wedge that Reroll plus focus attack.

Good luck with it. I think it shows promise either way.

I agree with the previous poster that VI would be better than squad leader here, though swarm tactics might also be a good option. I doubt that tactician will be useful on a HWK that's always stressed and floating around in circles (rarely getting ships in its firing arc for it to take effect), though Nien Nunb helps.

Actually your list is very close to my first tournament list, just swap Biggs for a B-Wing with advanced sensors and Nien Nunb and squad leader for R7-T1 on Wedge, and it's identical. I use Wedge as a phantom/interceptor hunter that, more often than not, one-shots the target with Jan's help. I really dislike having PS11 on Wedge and not being able to reposition after moving, hence the TL & boost droid. I'll have to test your version with Biggs though.

It does deny it on your most powerful attack however.

What difference does that make?

A lot when you're trying to drop a falcon before it can shoot back...
