Rebel Aces makes me want...

By mazz0, in X-Wing

...a crew slot in Y-Wings even more than I already did!

I want to fly Farlander (remove a stress when attacking and it works as an offensive focus) with B-Wing/E2 & Kyle (crew - when you remove a stress get a focus token) but I want to put Jans (crew - when a nearby buddy gets a focus they can get an evade instead) nearby because defensive focus on a 1agility ship isn't as good as an evade. I could put her on a HWK, or a B-Wing/E2, (or a falcon), but I'd really like to put her in a Y-Wing. Dunno know, I just like the idea of a Y-Wing B-Wing combo.

Yes. Just... yes.

When I used to play Star Wars Galaxies I flew a 2 person Y-wing. Most feared ship on intrepid...

Agreed.

It also fits the lore as the two-person BTL-S3 was the most common Y-wing configuration.

I imagine that they might think it's not very original for them to do so, because it's already been done with the B-Wing, but it really should have been done with the Y-Wing first.

TIE Bomber also had a 2 pilot variant...

Theres seems a y-wing modification that is yet to be released in most wanted so I'm hoping it's a crew mod

...Imperial Aces II where the TIE Advanced is corrected and maybe some new TIE Fighter pilots, or TIE Bomber pilots.

Well the Advanced could use a Chardaan Refit too. Perhaps they will reconsider the unspoken rule.

I can forsee a card turning the T/A into the T/ad and just giving it a firepower of 3 rather than 2.

Based on what's visible of the text it's not. It seems to be something to do with the turret, possibly locking its arc. Based on that, I'd guess the full title of it is "BTL-A4 Y-wing."

Which makes the current Y-wing a BTL-S3: we've got the two man version, and the second man operates the turret.

That would make sense... So swap turret for cannon then?

I could see that easily. Or a TIE/AD title card that bumped the Attack up by one. I just think it is clear that this ship currently does not fit into the game's design and direction and that a fix would be a smart decision. I just can not understand how the A and B wings were adjusted before this poor ship.

The text takes up the whole card. BTL-A4 is not simple. I suspect it involves locking the turret to the forward arc but carries some other benefit. I can't begin to speculate on what that may be, but I'm pretty sure it's not slots.

Perhaps the card could lock the firing arc of the Y along with a point reduction.

That matches the starfighter in wookiepedia.

If the second crew member is no longer manning the turret then yeah, it would make sense to sacrifice the turret for both a cannon and a crew slot.

Think we'll get an HLC turret at some point?

I've currently zoomed in as far as I can without blurring the text on the card in an image editor, and here's what I can see. [...] is the obscured area, words in italics I'm unsure of, ? is a letter I can't make out.

I'm guessing it's BTL-A4 Y-wing: You cannot attack targets outside of your firing arc. After you perform a secondary weapon attack you may immediately perform a primary weapon attack against the same target.

If you're around, MajorJuggler, could you run the numbers on such an upgrade?

That would make sense. Couple that with an R2 unit...

Would make Ys a great counter to large ships. It'd make sense too since we're seeing a ton of phantom hate while the other big fish in the meta hasn't been shown so much.

It just occurred to me that the turret is still an upgrade, not a cannon. So it still nixes the HLC. Otherwise ion + primary with a forward arc only.

Agreed.

It also fits the lore as the two-person BTL-S3 was the most common Y-wing configuration.

As TIE Pilot says, I'm pretty sure the BTL-S3 is the variant we have now: the engineer/weapons systems officer position operates the turret, so we hvae a turret slot instead of a crew slot.

I imagine that they might think it's not very original for them to do so, because it's already been done with the B-Wing, but it really should have been done with the Y-Wing first.

B-wing/E2 is fairly well established in the lore, while the idea of a Y-wing with a "spare" crew slot (that is, someone without a dedicated job already) isn't found anywhere at all.

Theres seems a y-wing modification that is yet to be released in most wanted so I'm hoping it's a crew mod

As others have said, it seems unlikely. Among other things, there's way too much text for it to be a simple swap of upgrade slots.

Well the Advanced could use a Chardaan Refit too. Perhaps they will reconsider the unspoken rule.

The Advanced doesn't need a Chardaan Refit. Its offense is the limiting factor, so making it cheaper won't help; by the time it's cheap enough to make it worth bringing a Tempest Squadron Pilot's gun along, its defensive capabilities will be all out of whack.

Bumping its Attack by 1, which people also won't stop suggesting  , would help--but intrudes substantially on the design space of the Defender (as well as, post-Aces, the Interceptor + Hull Upgrade + Shield Upgrade).

So I wouldn't expect the TIE Advanced fix about which we're all "keeping the faith" to look like either of those things.

Been trying to line up the text like the card and hit some problems. Italics are gaps I've filled.

My previous guess doesn't fit in the gaps properly although I still think it's words to a similar effect (locks the turret but you can shoot it and the primary). I was fairly certain the first word of the blank line was "secondary" but I'm really not sure now.

Lower left corner is blank. What do you guys think, Title or Modification? Either way, it's not unique.

I always read your name as bubblepompei ...... Imagining the eruption of Vesuvius to be really 'foamy'!

Either way, it wouldn't appear to free up the second crew member to make a crew slot. If he's no longer manning the turret then what's he doing?

More to the point they took the A-wing and the B-wing and made them better. Some people not have liked the two attack dice of the A-wing, but I loved that ship. I still love it, it just costs 2 points less. The B-Wing was already a super power in the game. They had firepower, battlefield endurance, great maneuverability and AMAZING upgrade-ability. But apparently they wanted to give the B-wing more love.

Sometimes I feel like the ships that get the aces are the ships where we want repaints.
