Y-wing is King

By Darthfish, in X-Wing

I can't wait. They'll play as they did in XWIng and Tie Fighter PC games!

I regularly win local tournaments with my 5 Y-wings against a variety of lists and opponents. Definitely an uphill battle, but I have managed to defeat phantoms, tie swarms, and fat Han too. I don't mean to say that the Ys are the best ship out there, but 4 or 5 of them can be very effective. The new title and turret will make things even more interesting!

5 Gold Squadrons w/ autoblaster turrets

or

Horton Salm w/ ion cannon, btl-a4 title

3x Gold Squadrons w/ ion cannon, btl-a4 title

Both could be lots of fun to try!

After seeing the BTL-A4, I decided that I needed to augment my Y-Wing fleet, so I combed every single LFGS in my area and, yes, Barnes and Noble aficionados, I called all the nearby B&Ns.

I could not find a single Y-Wing. Seemingly sold out across the region, I finally located a Y-Wing at my neighborhood comic shop.

We can all hope, glad they used the Headhunter as the staple. I remember chasing down those pesky yellow buggers.

I think that 4 of the base scum Y-wings with blaster turret and the agromech are going to be pretty tough. You even have 4 points left over for a bomb or 2 if you want. y-wings just got a whole lotta love, a may have to think about defecting to scum.....

It is the board control ship to beat. Various stress and ion ordnances available, stress bot or R7, spend a few points more and get all of that plus dutch for a great support ability as well. Soon we will be adding bombs to the mix. why take a B with ion when you can take a Y with 360 ion?I think, as an ECM / Movement control ship, it is the best thing out there. also, it's cheap and tough. Now I just need to practice so I can ion people into my own prox mines....

I think the Clubber Lang or Ivan Drago alternates will be a thing of nightmares. The onlything to equal it is a prototype TIE Interceptor in mision 7 or a TIE Phantom... in mission 7.

I haven't seen a y-wing fire in anger in over a year shame really.

This make Bruticus angry... Bruticus will DESTROY YOU ALL.

Just for the hell of it, wouldn't be cool if someone made the combaticons but they are imperial vehicles? Blastoff as a TIE Interceptor would be sweet, purple, white, silver, and black colored Interceptors with glowing purple parts would look sweet.

YEAH BTL-A4 Y-Wings!

I've been playing since Wave 1 and the reason that I saw Y-wings not working was that you were usually facing a bunch of Tie Fighters. The low green dice on a Y-wing means that even a bunch of Acdemy Pilots can kill it pretty quick. Also, ionizing a lone AP doesn't do that much. I hadn't seen them used much early on.

After a year of not playing, I noticed that most of the lists I faced against had around 3 ships each. This led me to think that the Y's were valide again. I ran Dutch with Ion and R7-T1 and found him EXTREMELY useful. I even boosted once to get within Range 1 for a 3 red dice shot w/ TL and one shot killed a Tie Intercepter!

Looking at Horton Salm again....and I'm not sure why I never took him before. For 2 pts more than Dutch, he can re-roll any blanks at range 2-3. If I ever wanted to try Proton Torpedoes....this is the guy. I mean, re-roll ANY blanks? What's the reason people don't take Torpepdoes? It's b/c they are unreliable. Roll 4 dice and your first eyeball turns into a crit. Re-roll any misses. Chances are you are going to do some serious damage with a Torp. Also, with his high PS, he will get the TL on most targets. The chances of getting 4 hits (with at least one crit) is pretty good. Aim that at the Falcon and bring it's shields down. Or take out an Imp ship with one hit. I will say that while a lot of people don't take Torpedoes, how many people have actually tried to take them? If you got someone like Horton, they can do some real damage.

Also, if you really want to take a EPT, you can grab that droid that gives it (R2-D6). It might make a Grey Squadron Y-wing worth it. Which EPT's would really rock on a Y-wing?

Outmaneuver was mentioned. You get lots of attacks with your turret at people you aren't in their arc for.

Wingman could be useful, especially if you have someone that takes a lot of reds.

Draw Their Fire might also be cool, especially if used with Biggs.

While it would be cool to get an EPT on them, I'm not sure what to take on one.

At least for me... :(

I love flying the Y-Wing, but I feel that the Bomb Loadout plus BTL-A4 would make it even more fun!

Probably will pick up either a B or Rebel Aces this weekend. The 'ol Y needs support to survive.
