Y-wing is King

By Darthfish, in X-Wing

Supposedly the real reason was card space. At that point in the game every ship had at least one upgrade card for each of its upgrade icons, and the y-wing's upgrades already filled the entire printing sheet without any space for an EPT card.

Do you have a source on that one? That would make me sad if that were true.

I'm hoping for a card that swaps the turret for a cannon.

I think it is what BTL-A4 card from Most Wanted does.

I doubt it. The card has way too much text for a simple upgrade swap. Compare the length to the bomb upgrade card, the rules for the A4 upgrade are much more complicated. Best guess is that it locks your turret into your normal arc (which would require a bit of text to explain in rules terms) in exchange for some kind of benefit. Unfortunately we have nothing more than speculation about what the benefit is.

Ive been looking at revisiting a Y-Wing list for a while and thanks to the scum article it has cemented me into trying them with the new bomb upgrade, exciting time for Y-Wingers and the game as a whole, Scum looks nasty :)

@OP

Preach it brother!

I think they're overpowered. It's not fair on Fat Han players.

This little droid could make the Y-Wings incredibly good. At least for S&V:

Gotta go fast!

I love the idea of a Y-wing careening through the play area, slinging turret shots at whatever happens to be nearby

Well, if you've still got a turret, I'd guess the ability to fire your primary and your turret.

I've been playing since Wave 1 and the reason that I saw Y-wings not working was that you were usually facing a bunch of Tie Fighters. The low green dice on a Y-wing means that even a bunch of Acdemy Pilots can kill it pretty quick. Also, ionizing a lone AP doesn't do that much. I hadn't seen them used much early on.

After a year of not playing, I noticed that most of the lists I faced against had around 3 ships each. This led me to think that the Y's were valide again. I ran Dutch with Ion and R7-T1 and found him EXTREMELY useful. I even boosted once to get within Range 1 for a 3 red dice shot w/ TL and one shot killed a Tie Intercepter!

Looking at Horton Salm again....and I'm not sure why I never took him before. For 2 pts more than Dutch, he can re-roll any blanks at range 2-3. If I ever wanted to try Proton Torpedoes....this is the guy. I mean, re-roll ANY blanks? What's the reason people don't take Torpepdoes? It's b/c they are unreliable. Roll 4 dice and your first eyeball turns into a crit. Re-roll any misses. Chances are you are going to do some serious damage with a Torp. Also, with his high PS, he will get the TL on most targets. The chances of getting 4 hits (with at least one crit) is pretty good. Aim that at the Falcon and bring it's shields down. Or take out an Imp ship with one hit. I will say that while a lot of people don't take Torpedoes, how many people have actually tried to take them? If you got someone like Horton, they can do some real damage.

Also, if you really want to take a EPT, you can grab that droid that gives it (R2-D6). It might make a Grey Squadron Y-wing worth it. Which EPT's would really rock on a Y-wing?

Outmaneuver was mentioned. You get lots of attacks with your turret at people you aren't in their arc for.

Wingman could be useful, especially if you have someone that takes a lot of reds.

Draw Their Fire might also be cool, especially if used with Biggs.

While it would be cool to get an EPT on them, I'm not sure what to take on one.

Hope the Scum's y-wing cards will add more than a bomb : i don't found it very usefull.

I mean you spend points that can probably not bring an advantage during dogfights.

I play Y-wing with Ion Turrets and it's very powerfull !

A crew member added will be awesome !

I know y-wings are not great dogfighters but really that feels right having played tie fighter as a lad they were a free kill once you got behind them.

They are a support ship meant to deliver crippling volleys of torpedoes to cap ships, their not meant to go it alone but take an escort.

Yeah, they are meant to be fighter/bombers, but without Imperial Capital ships, they don't fit in too well.

The ion turret makes them a mobile gun platform. If you had computer Y-wings, then yes, they were easy to kill. Harder when a real person was flying the Y-wing, but not too hard to kill. Then again, if you could have a whole person just manning the gun turret in those old games, it was a different story.

What would the big draw be to all green 3 maneuvers without EPTs like PTL or Opportunist that cause stress? Am I missing something here?

I am so excited for Scum Y-wings. I'd make a fantastic Dread space pirate Roberts.

Inconceivable.

The fact that the Y-Wing has red 3 turns. This way it doesnt, and it can also lose stress tokens easily. One of the problems of the Y-Wing is when its caught from behind, even if it has a turret, because it can't escape. This way the Y-Wing becomes a dogfighting ship.

Having an ion turret that is hard to catch with the amount of hull and shields the Y-Wing has for that price is pretty good.

Inconceivable.

They keep saying OP. I don't think it means what they think it means...

Sure, but nobody takes B's for Ion anyway.

B-wings without ion cannons feel dirty and wrong to

B-wings should have 2 cannon upgrades, as by standard they have 3X laser cannons, Autoblasters and 3X ions.

nimajnebho's idea of a crew slot sounds like a great benefit to Y-wings, and I believe they have 2 crew members in the actual films (?). Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Throwing nien numb on there to make all straights could be useful. Forward 4 green makes a y-wing much quicker, especially if you could take that astro to make 3-turns green. I guess that mech is just for scum though? I raise more questions than I attempt to answer...

Fail.

my 2 cents

Not sure anyone has said this yet, but there is quite a lot of text on that y wing title. Gaining a crew Matt or may not be part of it, but it us certainly not the only thing if at all. Also, it REALLY looks like the beginning part says "You cannot perform attacks outside of your firing arc." That's from filling in some partial text. Can't make out anymore. But, that means that it is likely a BTL-A4 title. That also, unfortunately makes it unlikely there is a crew seat, as the A4 has no gunner and the turret is locked downinto one of four directions.

Not trying to disappoint anyone, I am among those who wants a crew member in Y wings also.

Thoughts what it could say if I'm wrong or what the rest of the text looks like?

Horton is really good for the Torps. I've used him as a fighter-bomber several times, and he does great with them.

Outmaneuver doesn't work well on Y's, since the target has to be in your own primary arc. I've run Horton with Squad Leader, alongside Dutch with R7-T1, and that is ridiculous once you get them in close, as it potentially lets Dutch TL and pass twice in one turn.

Scum's Kavil will be the king !

Sad that rebel's didn't recruit him ...

New Y-wing title is interesting. But thats' all folks.

Thanks FFG ? Not sure.

3 Y-Wings and an X-Wing won a 22 player event here on Saturday. I can't wait to see what Most Wanted does.
