Y-wing is King

By Darthfish, in X-Wing

It is the board control ship to beat. Various stress and ion ordnances available, stress bot or R7, spend a few points more and get all of that plus dutch for a great support ability as well. Soon we will be adding bombs to the mix. why take a B with ion when you can take a Y with 360 ion?

I think, as an ECM / Movement control ship, it is the best thing out there. also, it's cheap and tough.

Now I just need to practice so I can ion people into my own prox mines....

Dude, seismics. Cheaper and can hit more than one ship.

If it had a turret refit that reduced its cost by 2 if it didn't use a turret, then you could even use it without Ion. Sadly it still requires Ion to be useful.

Ion + Seismics should be fun though.

I haven't seen a y-wing fire in anger in over a year shame really.

Dutch + Ion + R7T1. You're welcome.

If you can ion them and thus be certain that you can bomb them next turn maybe the Proton Bomb would be even better than the Seismic Charge.

I've said before when ever I fly a Y wing it's always targeted first because of the threat it poses

Gold + ion is like a cheaper Biggs

TBH judging from the latest results (in the war on Phantoms) the HWK, or more specifically Roark, is the new hotness as far as support ships go.

Throw in an ICT and flavour with either Chewbacca crew, Jan Ors Crew or Nien Numb Crew and that my friend is the new King.

I do like the Y wing but even with the new bomb slot coming (Q2 next year is my guess at this stage) I don’t see the Y-Wing getting it's true respect until it gets some new pilots with interesting abilities that have EPTs.

Dutch Vander with an ICT is so damned solid that I struggle to NOT include him in every Rebel list I play. He was the pillar that made my win at Assault at Imdaar Alpha possible.

Sure, but nobody takes B's for Ion anyway.

Wait, neither off the named Y-Wing pilots has an EPT slot?!?! How come?

Too much awesome in one ship.

I've no idea why they didn't give ept to y-wings.

Yeah it is a little strange all the other wave 1 ships got at least 2 ships with EPT slots

Darth Vader

Mareke Steele

Luke Skywalker

Wedge Antilies

Howlrunner

Mauler Mithel

Black Squadron Pilot....... ah yeah that's an odd one out.

Perhaps they thought at that early stage of the game that the privilege of a turret outweighed getting an EPT as well.

That's amazing.

Gold + Ion + R3A2 = evil

I'm hoping for a card that swaps the turret for a cannon.

Being an enormous fan of Outmaneuver, I can totally get behind this outcry for more Y-Wing. Yes yes! take more Y-Wings!

I think no EPT had more to do with the ship than the pilots (I do recognize the name is PILOT talent)... The Y wing is not maneuverable thus even excellent and legendary pilots like Hortan Salm aren't afforded their talents when in a Y wing. Just like how shuttles don't have EPTs either... Too clunky.

Well the HWK is fairly well accepted to have a worse dial than the Y-Wing yet Jan and Kyle get EPT's so your theory falls flat to a certain degree.

Im more inclined to stick with my original statement above and add that were the Y-Wing done now (or recieve addiional pilots later on) they would have EPTs.

I believe R2-D6 was somewhat of a fix intended to solve the issue for Dutch and Horton.

I don't disagree that if they were released now they would have an EPT, I am stating FFG's possible justification during wave one for the Y and their similar justification for the shuttle when it was released.

Torpedo for bomb will do.

I think they were worried with the possible combos of astromechs plus ept would give them too much strength with their turrets and ordinance. Too bad ordinance is awful, and a fully kitted out ywing is 40ish points if they had EPTs.

Supposedly the real reason was card space. At that point in the game every ship had at least one upgrade card for each of its upgrade icons, and the y-wing's upgrades already filled the entire printing sheet without any space for an EPT card.
