Scum preview article up!

By Babaganoosh, in X-Wing

Been mulling over the article before I give my thoughts but...

all I can think of is: ****, N'dru Suhlak is awesome.

I'm tempted to give him the hot-shot blaster and opportunist (or just VI), then run him down a flank by himself and dare any Phantom or Interceptor to try and get rid of him. Don't screw up or eat 4 (or 5) turreted dice. It's a oneshot but if it keeps Soontir, Whisper and Echo honest, it's worth 3 points.

Hmm, which one sounds overpriced ? Suliak (or however it is spelled, the Z named), costs 17 for PS7. Blount costs the same with PS6.

About serissu, it is very likely the scyk will cost 14 points (it is more of an a-wing/interceptor, than a generic cheap ship), extra 6 points doesn't seem unlikely.

@Duty Opportunist wouldn't work that well (getting soontir withouth tokens at PS7 is quite rare, same for whisper since it gets one after hitting), but outmaneuver, lone wolf or predator in the other hand...

Dude was frickin' MADE for Lone Wolf, I think. He will be a terror with that.

Yeah I know opportunist probably wouldn't pan out against flankers but it'd make him more punishing when sniping into the main furball, and thus make it more important for the enemy to go after him...

But honestly its going to be Veteran Instincts every time, VI has served me better than any other EPT and its cheaper to boot. Go big or go VI, that's my build strategy.

PS 9 turreted 4 dice attack (for only 21 pts)... that's just so good at saying NO! to certain slippery bastards.

I think I'd prefer Lone Wolf for the durability and extra hitting power, but agreed, that PS 9 could go a long way.

Right now ndru is the only non y wing that excites me. Can't wait to see the named Ys and rebel crossover stuff.

Yep. Ditto. Aye. Here, here. I think you have the right attitude, good sir.

I am betting that you can use the models from the rebel Z95s, but I would be that official events will require the proper dial. We'll have to wait and see though,

We have already had an email from Frank saying you need the proper faction dial for official events.

We have yes you can use rebel models but you need the proper dials and inserts.

Once again, Fantasy Flight have shown they are truly good and right. I was a doubter of the third faction, but I'm fully there. I still hope to see an option for the Scum and Villainy faction to ally with either the Rebs or Imps; otherwise we need Mercenaries and Hired Guns as a separate group - not a faction mind you (bring on the Mandalorians!).

Am I the only one that thought that "Genius" is a tongue-in-cheek reference to the fact that you're going to get hit by the bomb most of the time if used?

I'm sorry, but i'm not dumping another 4 points to let my Wishbone avoid a one shot weapon. I'll take "Genius" on my wonderfully drunken Dutch (he likes to fly off the board and bump fellow pilots) and blow myself up all day. Will be good times.

Why do we 'need' mercenaries? Allied factions is one thing X-Wing really doesn't need.

Urgh let's not make the mistake 40k did with allies please.

You can't. It is not Astromech, but Salvaged Astromech - different upgrade types.

DOH.

I wholeheartedly agree w this sentiment.

I'm totally planning on a fun bidding format, where you bid your list points down, and the winner, fewer points, gets to mix scum into their list, but the loser doesn't lose any points... Ie...

I'll bid that I can win with a 97 point list... Well, I can do it in 93.... Yeah, ahh ok.... You win.. Now it's. A scum / rebel list at 93 vs an imperial list at 100

And every TO who isn't a FFG employee is going to ignore that "ruling", so who cares what he thinks?

(Assuming the dials are identical, of course. If they aren't then obviously I take this back and agree with the ruling.)

Distributor and store run events also benefit from following this ruling, as it potentially leads to more sales, and I suspect that covers the majority of official events.

For non-FFG events though, I expect this to be one of the more frequently bent rules.

Or more people buying online at a discount and bringing their stuff to the store. Remember, retail stores depend on their customers feeling generous enough to give charity donations in exchange for gaming space instead of saving money by buying online. Is the chance of getting someone to buy extra scum z-95s (which you're probably going to sell anyway given FFG's stock issues) for the official dials really worth the risk of convincing your soon-to-be-former customers that you're a greedy {censored} who doesn't deserve their support? I think any decent store owner is going to realize that it's better to maintain a casual customer-friendly environment and ignore this rule.

You're asking the wrong question there. You should be asking "Would I as a store owner get more sales by stating to customers that I'm ignoring tournament rules?"

Some of that Scum stuff is pretty scary. So much auto-damage....admittedly I barely started playing this game so what do I know? But still, I'm not sure I like the look of that stuff....

Y-Wing bombs though, awesome!

So the Andrasta title almost certainly appears to say "Your upgrade bar gains an additional _________________."

Here's a thought, what if it's a second Illicit Icon? You could load Dead Man's Switch and Feedback Array at the same time. Use Feedback array once or twice when it is useful, but then when you've got 1HP left and are likely to die this turn, use Feedback Array, triggering Dead Man Switch, deal two damage to your target of choice and 1 more to everyone within Range.

Bad idea? Probably? Fun? Absolutely.

If the reason is to be more convenient to players while sacrificing potential sales, then yes you probably would over time. More people buying less a piece is still more sales.

We are going to do this already, we decided that after reading the crap from Frank last month (you can use models, but not dials, huh ?).
