Tie Defenders and ... evade action? extra hull?

By Blail Blerg, in X-Wing

Here's another attempt!

Rexler Brath (37)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Proton Rockets (3)
Gamma Squadron Pilot (18)
Flechette Torpedoes (2)
Assault Missile (5)
Munitions Failsafe (1)
Captain Jonus (22)
Squad Leader (2)
Flechette Torpedoes (2)
Total: 100
In case of Phantom, pray and fly Rexler well. If you can get the unaided stress shot off its GREAT, as the stress is automatic. Otherwise, let the Bombers try and stay the swarm a little while Rexler hunts Phantom.
There isn't a need to keep Jonus with Rexler all the time.
Assault Missile can also splash a Phantom.
Vs Fat Han, you can simply choose to not Jonus power-up the Flechette shots, and the Falcon will take stress each time. Let Rexler lay into it with full power.
Vs everyone else, shoot missiles.

In the case this doesn't work as well: swap the Procket for Hull on Rexler.

edit edit: Wait, Squad Leader is pretty useless... Let me think...

Your choice of Hull or Flechette on Jonus.
Also Adrenaline Rush on Jonus is fine too. Squad Leader only works on the Gamma, not on Rexler.

No it won't. Flechette's stress effect is useless against the Falcon.

I'm more scared of 5 T/Fighters Academy Pilot than 2 Defenders Delta Squadron Pilot.

I think, the Defender is only suitable for epic matches.

But besides that, It's a strong late game ship.

No need to worry then you can have Brath with HLC and four ties for under 100 points, it'll kill falcons with ease and you'll have plenty of fire arcs to catch a phantom in.

The problem i dont like about the 4 ties to catch phantoms is that it literally does no damage. 2red vs 4green is statistically zero. you can multiply zero by 4 times, and maybe youll get one damage, but thats about it.

Really, the only thread to the Phantom in that list is brath. And when its just trying to dodge one ship, anyone competent can do that.

sorry i derped on the flechettes.

i tried my build, just dice rolling. generally at R2, its going to be really close or in his favor 60% ish. You need really be at R3 a lot so that you get 4 dice on Rexler and try not to take too much damage from the escorts. The flechettes are pretty much worthless vs the Falcon. The Bombers were worthless naked in the first place.

The Defender should have come with a natural boost. I don't know why it doesn't. In fact I rather have boost over the barrel roll. A ship with a 5 straight green should be able to boost. They should come out with a title that gives it boost for 0 or maybe 1 point.

Rex w/Predator/Outmanuever/VI to taste

Deploy on a flank, turn inside and sweep your opponent's ships off the board.

3 Defenders might be slightly more competitive then 4 Advanced ...

I own 3 ... never used them together, though.

Maybe 3 Deltas + Stealth Device would do the trick - but I'd fear to engange Phantoms

The Defender has a unique set of talents that are not found on any other ship:

- It can equip a heavy laser cannon.

- It is a small base ship that can do the 1 bank, which allows it to snipe from a distance. Not many Imperial ships can do that while also being able to go all the way to a straight 5 (only the tie advance can).

- It is the only ship that can do a white K-turn, allowing it to still use its cannon at full efficiency.

- It has a much, much easier time using its cannon than a Firespray (which will often end up shooting from its auxilary arc).

It is a different beast than anything else in the Imperial army, but if you play to its strength, it can be a real joy to fly :)

Really the only thing I wish it had was Boost stock, because it is supposed to be that fast.
