Everyone is looking for a way to beat Tie Phantoms. They are manueverable and can go so many places. People quickly figured out if you can put Stress on a Phantom, it can't cloak. This is a great way to stop them from cloaking with Advanced Cloaking Device. They can't get a free action if stressed. The problem with this is that you need to have a high PS pilot that can put stress on the Phantom. There are ways, but your options are limited.
One of the ways mentioned was Nera Dantels with Flachette Torpedoes, Munitions Failsafe, and Marksman. That way, you can fire 3 red dice at a Phantom anywhere within Range 1 of Nera and only need to focus. You can fire one a turn and most likely won't hit. You will always cause a stress on the Phantom. It has been mentioned many times on these forums already.
What people usually say is that with Nera's PS 5, she will be firing after the Phantom shoots and has already re-cloaked. It's "useless" as a Phantom will just do a green manuever next turn.
OK.....is that really "useless"? Look at the Phantom's dial. The only green manuevers are 2 bank, 2 straight, and 3 straight. If you are able to fire a torpedo a turn and cause a stress a turn, how is the Tie Phantom ever going to turn around? 2 Bank and barrel roll don't really go too far. They are going to have the turn radius of the Lambda Shuttle.
The major issue of Phantoms is that they can go almost anywhere and once they fire, they get 4 green dice. Green dice will not always save you, but mobility is key. If you are stressing out a Phantom, you are helping control where it is going to go. There are only so many places that a stressed out Phantom can go. If part of the issue with Phantoms is figuring out where they are going to go, doesn't helping control that help you beat them?
Now, there is more than one way to induce stress on a Phantom. I won't go into all the ways you can do it, but they usually involve having to get the Phantom in your sights or at Range 2 (for Tactician). The Nera option is good as you only need to be within Range 3, but after a Phantom gets stressed, it becomes easier to predict. So, there are other options that enter the picture as a more reliable way to stress out a Phantom. Why is this worth mentioning? If you can put 2 Stress on a Phantom in a round, it can't cloak. We all know what happens when Phantoms can't cloak.
So, instead of hitting REPLY every time I see someone counter a mention of Nera with Flachettes with, "yeah, but it doesn't matter..." I figured I would start this thread. It DOES matter.
Also, a stressed Fat Han is a lot less manueverable and double stressed means no Evade action. Stress is also a good factor vs. Falcons. Flachette Torpedoes won't work, but there are other options, with more on the way.
