Ah, I guess I need to re-evaluate my investment with this game since the usual vocal whiners who throw around their self righteousness and self determined superior opinions, have moved to x-wing. I have a hard enough time getting in a game of 40k because the whiney, entitled, and over competitive, nothing like the same people doing the same thing to another game for me. Good job!

To be honest I feel for the people at FFG. As soon as the do something that violates all the whiney vocal converts self righteous ideas they'll get the same vitriol from the same people.

Dude, I have spent thousands on 40k, and countless hours.

I wouldn't call that entitlement. I've probably been playing that game longer than some of the people working for GW have been alive.

I had supported that game for at least .25 years and if over that time I find them lacking, I don't feel entitled to my opinion, I feel it is absolutely demanded. So suck on their teet if you want. You have every right to, that's your choice. Just as it's my choice to say. "Thanks for the games GW, but it's time I invested where I believe I will have more fun."

By the way, I have some space marines if your interested.

I'm keeping my orks, just to attached to the green buggers.

I am an old Rogue Trader days player for 40K and Fantasy. For me I hated the fact GW would routinely discontinue models and cut them out of codexes or in the case of Squats(Never Forget) cut them out of the 40K universe. Also the pricing policy of 40K is another big problem where GW routinely over charges for models and lacks play balance anymore. It is hard to find a decent group where it is not about power playing but fun. Last games I played were a few 5th Edition as between the two I was working in Iraq as a contractor. Now I'm in the moving process from Canada to Fort Worth Texas so after listening to the Heroic 28s Kessel Run podcast my interest in X-wing was piqued. Now I just need to make some time to get out and play.

As a RT era player, I do not converse with current 40K players. That would be like giving their comments any credence.

As someone who started in 2nd I ignore anyone whos been playing longer than me because their old and the old have nothing to contribute they just use resources better used on the younger and stronger members of nerdom.

hobo,

don't make get out my walker and come over there.....

So, is anyone excited for The Battle of Five Armies to be covered by GW in miniature form? I'd like them to re-release their old boxed game with updated miniatures, but they won't do that. Maybe their new Hobbit miniatures will be reasonably priced, unlike the existing line. Come on, $75 for a box with two wizards and two elves, all in Finecast? There's no excuse for pricing that bad, unless they simply don't want to sell anything.

I like the game, I just wish the prices were reasonable. Or at least less gougey. Anytime I look at buying something new for LotR, I typically nope out really quickly.

Ya, unfortunately, the new Hobbit line isn't as appealing as the old LotR line.

Downsizing their boxsets from 12 to 10 (when warbands are squads of 12!) was ludicrous. It's crazy to think back when Return of the King was around they were selling boxsets with 24 warriors. Good times.

I do miss the days of buying boxes of 20 Imperial Guardsmen.

Sorry, I just ignored this comment...

Actually I had those in mind more like 3rd edition and beyond. Nothing like a 5th edition player telling you how wonderful to ed game is.

We actually had a 40k-whatever edition player standing by while we were playing Xwing and attempt to recruit our group to become new 40K players. We let him go on for a while because it was too hilarious before busting his bubble.

Because fun is one size fits all . . . <_<

£50 for three plastic trolls from the hobbits, about the same for the half models of dwarves in barrels, lotr is more expensive that 40k and wfb and both of those are really expensive.

Oh, really?

I'm a vocal self righteous condescending whiner? Do you see me going on and on like you and your ilk? Nope! But it sure seems you and those who you side with fit the description you try to label me with.

I know, you try to marginalize me because I don't ascribe to the prevailing opinion of the you and your ilk. That's so progressive of you trying to silence those who don't feel your opinion is paramount and are tired of hearing it over and over. You aren't going to silence me like that though, I don't care how many people like it or not.

Is that racism or speciesism?

I tried Ilk once and it was too gamy for me.

I've played every edition of 40K with the exception of 4th (took a break). 5th was alright, 6th was ok but too flyeriffic. 7th is a big old pile of meh.

You can add personal attacks to the list too, now.

And you want some input? Here's some: this is a thread about welcoming new players. Your post was anything but that. And I'll take someone whining about rules any day over someone whining about whiners. Sweep your own floor.

The thread did get hijacked to a degree, becoming a commiseration over our falling out of love with 40k, and I'm as guilty as anyone. So I'd be fine if Striker just pointed that out, and I think a little slack should have been cut even if he didn't do it politely, because the thread did get a little out of hand, I think. This is supposed to have been a welcoming center for 40k converts, not a GW-bash fest, but it was trending that way.

But, on the other hand, you come off as... unnecessarily combative, striker. People have a right to complain, and approach a game competitively, and to abstain from playing, even if you still want to. And while everyone has a certain fondness for their own opinions, I don't know that anyone here approaches your tone of self-righteousness.

And there were definitely no personal attacks prior to your arrival here. I really don't like being blamed for your inability to find games; what are we supposed to do, keep playing a game we don't like anymore because you need someone to play with? I didn't stop playing 40k out of spite, I stopped because I'd rather be playing x-wing. And I don't know if you've noticed, but there is a strong base of support for FFG here. Threads crop up all the time just to say thanks to them, especially to their customer service team (who seem to be proactively generous in replacing damaged product, even if it was our own stupid fault that it got damaged).

You can play the victim card all you like. We and our ilkmates ruined 40k for you, we'll ruin x-wing (just you wait!), and we reacted negatively when you called us names. Just don't expect a lot of us to feel bad about your crocodile tears.

. . . I like 7th Ed

. . . I like 7th Ed

You have every right to but alot of people didn't, the reason I didn't was because it was a cash grab rather than a real edition they didn't fix assault they didn't fix vehicles being glanced to death and they added a whole bunch of random things that detract rather improve it.

If you like the edition keep playing, those of us who didn't have already left.
