Will X-Wing Minis ever make ships from the Prequels?

By Kingsguard, in X-Wing

A buddy of mine was saying yesterday that he'd really like to see Naboo starfighters or the Queen's ship.

Any idea whether FFG is going to put out ships from the Prequels? Admittedly, I myself would like to see ARC-170s at some point.

There's more chance of us seeing ships from Rebels I'd have thought, as it's in the same time frame.

Saying that though, E-Wings are well after Jedi aren't they? So you could go back in time the same way?

The prequels get a lot of hate around here, but actually I'd like to see the N1 and Droid Star Fighters and also the ships from the Star Wars Starfighter game (has it on PS2) but let our wallets recover from wave 5 and aces first pls

I am new to this game but it has since taken over my gaming life, I think having a droid faction could be cool

Christian Petersen, the CEO of FFG, has said multiple times--most recently at GenCon this year--that they don't anticipate making prequel ships.

Personally I'd like to see prequel ships, but if this was to happen I would like to play them separately to the current era ships with the Same basic rules. Similar to the way flames of war do it

Yep; don't hold your breath for prequel ships; he isn't even cagey in the way he talks about the prequel era, so I don't think there's much of a chance of seeing prequel ships in X-wing.

I agree; if FFG were to make a prequel ship, it would make a lot more sense to put them in their own era, rather than pit them against more modern ships. If for no other reason than it makes sense thematically; they'd have access to all the lore and fluff associated with the clone wars.

If the prequel ships were injected, for the most part artificially into the current game, you would have to leave out all of the interesting background associated with those ships. It makes a lot more sense to have a game set in their era, if at all.

NEVER!

Hope no.

probably not. The game is called X-Wing, so basically if the ships weren't around or notable when X-wings are in use, then we probably won't see them in the game.

If FFG is under the same license restrictions as other companies making star wars items they were told earlier this year, back around April or May that they are to stop making any prequel items. Anything in production at the time could still be finished and sold but after that nothing new. Disney stated they want an original trilogy push between now and the release of the new movie. Disney is also going for a big Rebels tie in with all the companies, so more than likely expect to see some things from Rebels in X-Wing next spring.

The whole point of the game was to be set during the original trilogy, although they've blurred that line by including the E-Wing which didn't come out until well after the Battle of Endor.

Interesting point about the licensing. I didn't know that.

As far as the E-Wing goes, I suspect that one of the reasons they went with the E-Wing is the lack of other rebel options at this point. The other options are increasingly obscure and uninteresting, if you exclude the K-Wing, which is also post-Endor by a large margin, and the Skipray Blastboat, which I would bet has been reserved for Scum.

The problem with making the prequels is that they are at a different time when the factions were different. There were no Rebels and the Empire was the Galactic Republic. You also have the Trade Federation in there. It would create problems.

Also, FFG already said they aren't doing them as this is a Galactic Civil War based game.

I can't seem to get the quote option to work. but yeah I totally agree with you Babaganoosh. The Empire had more ships to pick from the OT period than the Rebels and they needed something to put balance out the TIE Defender. The E-Wing really was the only choice they could go with.

The Skipray would be a good ship that they could either repaint or just add enough cards that It can be used by all three factions. There was a squadron of Skiprays on board every Star Destroyer, they were also sold on the open market and the Rebels even had a bunch of them as well during the OT and even more after Endor.

I am quite sure that we will see the Gozanti Cruiser, which appeared in Episode I and II, but will also appear in the Rebels series. On the other hand, it is a huge ship and maybe that does not really count then.

I was wondering when the subject of prequels ships would come back around.

in the FFG Gen Con report, Chris Peterson made it clear that X-Wing would be set in the Rebellion Era. But he didn't rule out Prequel ships, if they were still around during the Rebellion Era.

One could surmise from this that any groups from the Clone Wars would not be seen. No Trade Federation. No Jedi. No Sith. No Republic factions.

Pirates? Maybe. Or maybe they roll up to Scum.

Firespray, YT-1300, YT-2400, Y-Wing, GR-75, CR90 are all from the Clone Wars era. Not sure about the HWK. I guess I could look it up, but I didn't.

The V-wing is a very strong possibility for the scum faction. Arc-170 and eta-2 are possibilities for any of the 3 factions, or...the first ship used by all 3 factions?!?!

How cool would that be. They could do an expansion pack like Most Wanted. Include a arc-170 and two differently painted eta-2's. Then do the right thing that Most Wanted didn't, and include dials, cards, and bases for all three factions.

Yep! Been saying this one for a while now. I would absolutely LOVE to see that happen, since multi-faction ships HAVE been confirmed, now.

I doubt they'll pass up established scum ships like the Skipray, Cloakshape, I-7 Howlrunner, A-9 Vigilance, and Preybird, not to mention Uglies, and give Scum prequel-era ships. I think that's wishful thinking, to say nothing of the notion of handing out copies of each ship to every faction.

There are alternatives to fighting, though: see shapeways

They've made them from far earlier times, far futuristic times, and some from that time frame already. Why would they suddenly stop now if it makes sense in game? S&V makes sense and some cross over ships will work out.

Dark Empire comic series, 6 years after Endor, according to Wookieepedia. I think the relevant point here is that X-wings, Y-, A-, B-, etc were all still very much in use when the E-wing came out.

The only reason why the Prequels get a lot of hate around here is because people grew up. If they didn't have Original Trilogy Star Wars when they grew up, and are adults now. (most cases not all cases.) The Original Trilogy would be getting the same hate just like the prequels if most people watches Star Wars with adult eyes.

I really do hope we get some prequels. I think a lot of people want them. You know what they say, it's the Internet Minority that is the loudest. So I am guessing it's the Internet Majority that is quiet that want the Prequel ships.

I am really looking forward to the Jedi Star Fighters. I would even love to get some of the mini star destroyers that the Clones use as well for the bigger ships.

I would also like to see Prequel ships, but even if they stubbornly stick with the X-wing theme there's still no reason some of the early-birds can't be introduced. The Empire used V-wings at least in the formative days, and probably other Republic ships, too. We already were blessed with the Z-95 from that era. Full-airframe Y-wing? Why not?
