Is X-Wing Available in Dutch?

By voidstate, in X-Wing

I've noticed that I get a lot of Dutch-speaking visitors in my stats. Is X-Wing available in Dutch or do you use the English version (I've yet to meet a Dutch person who can't speak better English than me, so I wouldn't be surprised)?

vs

I don't know for sure - but it's available in Traditional Chinese for the Taiwanese market (and for those in China who don't mind reading Traditional). I figure that's because there are lots of people here who can't read English, so a Chinese version is very helpful. This is speculation, but I think Dutch isn't a very pressing language since many Dutch people can read English.

As an aside, there's probably no X-Wing in Dutch, but there's "Dutch" in X-Wing.

:)

In the Netherlands (where I was born) as well as in Flanders (where I live), there is no version available which is translated in the Dutch language. Might be the South of Belgium and Brussels play with cards in French, but I haven“t played a game of X-wing in these parts yet.

From the name of Biggs I assume we get the US version, as opposed to the UK version where he is called Biggles.

Really no goldmember meme's?

I R DISAPOINT!

If you want, i can take a shot at translating your language file.

Eh? did i miss a joke (hard to tell on forums), in the UK sets its still Biggs :)

Near all Dutch have very decent English speaking and reading capabilities. Translating to Dutch would be wasted effort to me.

Also, I super duper love your squadron builder. Its the one I use the most.

Did i miss something? Is Biggs actually called Biggles in England?

Deploy the neutron microscope we shall find this joke!

No, hes not. I think a few people make biggs/biggles jokes but the cards we get are the 'english language' version. I'm pretty sure they are the same as the US version and probably use american english (i'd have to check but it would be mental to print dialect variants).

The only game i know that *had* to have a uk version separate was 'cards against humanity' as it has distinct cultural variations dependent on country...

For those that dont know 'biggles' is a UK wwi/wwii era fighter pilot hero of a series of boys adventure books.

Usually prefixes... 'biggles flies...'

Like 'Biggles Flies Again' and the sequel 'Biggles flies Undone'

Honk-Wing ?

(Honkball is the beautifully named Dutch word for baseball.)

That thread reads to me like our 'breakfast thread', people having fun on an in joke together.

Yes unfortunately we don't get a lot of translations in the Netherlands, but I have to say we have had our bad translations as well. So I prefer them keeping it English ;).

If you have any questions about a card the many dutch speaking players here can help you understand the card with dutch words.

My apologies to all if I caused confusion. I am pretty sure I saw a thread about a different named Biggs on BGG, but of course now I can not find it :-(

But I do prefer English cards to bad translations

There is a thread on BGG about an 'UK english language variant' but i think its a wind up with a lot of people 'getting it' and joining in.

I could be wrong but i've never seen a UK set with 'biggles darklighter' as a pilot!

:)

I always thought that the biggles card was real and really liked if they would do that, also because I was a huge biggles fan

Anyone remember that time travel film about boggles and the German super weapon?

Vaguely remember it. I remember adverts for it in 'battle' and 'eagle' comics more though.

I don't remember it being terrible.

Found it!

Why try the difficult way if you have google?

Including a post from the OP he removed the name Biggles from his squadronbuilder to avoid confusion! :-)

(unless there are two with the same nickname and a squadronbuilder)

Not meant accussingly by the way, I just thought it was funny :-)

Your squadronbuilder is brilliant!
