I think FFG could make an awesome Mass Effect game either using some engine like Descent or one like Gears of War.

I know this is a bit of a necropost, but Runebound has all the bones of a good mass effect game.

Replace the map with a starfield and you have exploration with planets instead of the gems. The game already has a three team member structure just replace the followers with Normandy team members. The "doom track" timer can be used for the Harvesters coming back. There is gear, abilities, all the stuff you need. Practically just a reskin.

Of course the race aspect would have to be worked put (teams of sentinels or whatever) but that is trivial.
