I was just backing up my database when I noticed that my squadron builder is now at nearly 100,000 saved squadrons! Currently it stands at 96,595, which means we should hit 100k in the next month (although if you count the saved then deleted ones, there have already been 128,525 in total).
When I started this project it was just to make it easier for myself to build squadrons and play about with different configurations, especially during my lunch break, where I wanted to fiddle around with what ships I wanted and then be able to see them at home when I played that evening. Since then, it's grown and grown. I reckon I must have spent 200-300 hours on it since I started!
Even while spending a year backpacking round Asia with my family, I kept tinkering away. I didn't want to let down the users and it really helped while away those long plane, bus and boat journeys. In fact, here's me in the middle of Darkest Borneo on a riverboat hundreds of miles from civilisation, fixing a few bugs: https://plus.google.com/photos/111598610648729456585/albums/6060330534782349105/6060330547245293858?pid=6060330547245293858&oid=111598610648729456585 ![]()
So, here's a big thank you to everyone who has used my squadron builder, and an even bigger one to everyone who has reported bugs, pointed out typos, sent me new card details or made suggestions to improve the whole experience. And most recently, to the volunteers who are translating the app into half a dozen different languages!
I'm really proud of it as a piece of programming but it would never have got where it was if nobody had been using it or helping out.
Cheers
