Hi everyone. I recently got the game, only played twice so far, so I'm still learning the (inevitable) nuances.

The Lead Investigator drew the Mythos card - A Proposition, which states "The Lead Investigator may gain a Dark Pact Condition to immediately solve 1 Rumor Mythos in play."

The LI already had a Dark Pact, and there was a Rumor in play. I know he cannot get a second Dark Pact, so here's the confusion. Does he ignore the "gain a Dark Pact" part because he already has one and solves the Rumor anyways? Or since he cannot gain the condition, he cannot solve the Rumor? As usual, the Forum's advice and wisdom is greatly appreciated.

Since you cannot gain the Dark Pact condition (because you already have one), you cannot discard a Rumor card.

If there is an effect saying "do X to do Y", then if for whatever reason you cannot do X, you cannot do Y.

It's situations like these that make it worthwhile to move the first player token around.

I go by Arkham rules, where the token moves clockwise, as I feel choosing who goes first is an unnecessary advantage for the players.

Yes, this. The majority of the games I play the token seldom moves. However, getting the right investigator to the right spot or trading the right item at the right time is sometimes crucial. Figuring out who should move first is one of the most important strategies of this game I think.
