I know you need a quick easy shorthand reference... but am I the only one who is a tiny bit irritated by how cutsie people try to be with these?
Now get off my lawn.

I think I'm the black to your white. I've been wracking my brains trying to make a decent Wedge Antillies list that I can get away with calling Atomic Wedgie.

I agree completely. I really hate the list names people use.
The vast majority are useless as they don't convey the contents of the list, therefore what's the point? Unless you assume that every other player out there is going to take the time to learn your list and its name, which is a ridiculous assumption.

How about
Wedge w/ advanced proton torpedoes
3x green squadron w/ proton rockets
I love my "punny" names.
Fel's Brath
Royal Escort
TIElite
Sad Jan
Bigg;s BuzzDaggers
Come Abaht (okay thats sloppy since it only references one ship)
Not to threadjack, but why is "Biggs Walks the Dogs" called that?

Not to threadjack, but why is "Biggs Walks the Dogs" called that?iggs and three ships that he is tethered to early in the game.
Because it has Biggs and 3 ships which he is tethered to early in the game.
Different people like different things.
I have always thought it was one of the most original things about this game were the really cool names that people come up with for their lists. Now, there are some real stinkers out there, some really bad name or names that make no sense, but there are some real original ones out there that make the game a bit more fun.
Three dogs in front of Biggs, all on a Range 1 leash.
I thought it was because they were Dagger squadron B-Wings. It makes more sense if you talk like Brad Pitt in ******. "Dags, d'ya like dags?"
Edit: Really? They censored that word?

Love that movie. Maybe you'll have to write sn@tch?

This is nothing, you should have seen the names some pro magic players gave their decks.
"English Breakfast"- whaaaaaaa???
I like some of the clever names. I am still proud of the name of my twin Decimator list. 2 Live Crew aka Throw the D.
It's the same crowd that jump on any popular media bandwagon that passes by.
+1 for Magic the Gathering having some crazy deck names.
The aforementioned "Breakfast" variants, "Team America/Team Italia," "Four Horseman," "Deadguy Ale," "Death and Taxes," "Tin Fins," and the list goes on FAR further than all of this.

Does that answer the age old question :
"Who let the dogs out?"
I've always been fascinated by it. Every game I've played has this unofficial naming scheme that usually indicates build and play style, sometimes core strategy too. But it's also a bit of a mirror too, it represents a bit what is in the mind of the general community.
Don't hate it. It's interesting.
I hate Biggs walks the dogs. That's a terrible name, and I cringe every time someone mentions it. The list is fine, sure. But that name is terrible.

Um...no? I've just accepted it as a part of the community - first in MtG, then WH40k, now in X-wing. Has nothing to do with "jumping on a bandwagon" and everything to do with just integrating into the community.
Puns are the lowest form of humor, beneath even the contempt of a marginally intellectual trilobite, and yet I'm amused by calling a squad InTIEmidation or Imperial Blockade.

Yeah, I wouldn't say i jump on media bandwagons. I do like word play and puns (note, this may not be a good thing). Plus using shorthand names (like TIE swarm) just saves time, people shorten stuff like that instinctively.
It strikes me as an odd parallel to draw. To me its like saying, "Hes a vegetarian so he must like Netflix original series."

Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
I usually nickname my lists in a way that reminds me of what's in them, like Whisper and Howl or Critswarm (Abaht, Biggs, and Bandit squad pilots). I only name them for my own reference, so a lot of in-jokes and nicknames end up getting used, like calling Howlrunner's minions the Flying Circus or calling the TIE Phantom a teleporting serial killer.
Since my list names make sense only to me, I tend to use more descriptive names when talking to others, or just refer to them as "this list here" if we're only discussing one.
Also, a lot of Magic decknames actually make a lot of sense if you're familiar with the nicknames for different cards. For example Second Breakfast and Sunny Side Up are built around a type of card people used to call "eggs," and using a card called Second Sunrise to crack all those eggs open again and again. Neat deck but kind of boring to actually play against.
L.O.K.E.
LIST OF KILL EVERYTHING!!!
