Species Master List?

By Kael, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hey everybody, I'm starting up a game in this system and porting over an existing game from the West End platform.

I'm having some issues with the character species and some of you with all the expansions may be able to help me out.

Two of my players from the West End platform are missing species. The players are open to changing species but want the new species to mimic their old species, as least somewhat. I don't expect a perfect fit and don't want to just "make it up" because if FF releases these species later, I don't want to deal with over- or under-powered issues from the character templates I created.

I need:

Veknoid - Master piloting skills, highly proficient in all forms of craft, both space- and planet-based. Really, pretty much a one-dimensional character.

Tinnell - A junk collector, basically. He's a bit of a silly character, always cobbling together things from spare parts. Incredibly skilled at jerry-rigging devices, droids, and weapons but it's not always pretty nor does it work consistently. Also, the Tinnell are physically gifted and humanoid-sized so something along the lines of a Toydarian won't really fly for this particular player.

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

Could you do a similar list for animals/beasts please?

Good idea. Between holidays and family problems, I don't have time to tackle it just yet, but I'll see what I can do after the new year.

I've been doing some compiling for my own references. But this may be of use...

Comp Adversaries

Look at the tabs at the bottom for different things. It's an ongoing project.

It's an Excel spreadsheet. If it doesn't open by clicking the link, just click "open" at the upper right of the error page. I don't know why it does that...

Anzati are extremely powerful. A single Anzati could easily wipe out a whole planet of sentient beings.

Read the page at http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Anzat_(species) before you decide to allow them into the game.

I read the page you linked to, and I don't see them as being all that much more powerful than the average being, especially if the feeding requires the opponent to be helpless or otherwise not resisting. Even with some form of hypnosis and regeneration (like that of the Trandoshan), they're only a little more powerful than the norm.

The only issue I can see is tthe way they need to feed, see this link,

https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/128736-the-great-movie-alien-compendium/?page=5#comment-1704758

yes they are a bit over avarage what i can tell, I'm really new to the system, but they real problem whit them is that no one will trust one or even like one,if they know about there adiction and with the right skill you wouldknow, I wouldn't wanna be around one anyway.

Are there any other species around that I could propose that has a hunting, culture and sneak bonus?

correct spelling

Now he wants to play a Clawdite, I think that's better I know he is going to be hard to recognize but still; that's better then the Anzat

Let me quote some sections from that page that I think are particularly relevant to this discussion:

Quote

They were an extremely long-lived species, also possessing regenerative capabilities beyond those of the average humanoid. The Anzati were also telepathic, growing more adept at the talent as they aged, allowing them to dominate someone's mind to give them a chance to feed.

and

Quote

The youngest Anzati were ancient. The ages of the eldest could be measured in eons. They roamed the galaxy when the Galactic Republic was just a dream of the Core Worlds. The Anzati could live for centuries, sustained by the life essence they drew from others.

and

Quote

Because the Anzati preyed upon those whose life force was strong, they must be stronger. While Anzati tended to possess exceptional might and often startling reflexes, at best, they could reflect that of a pinnacle Human's athletic ability; at worst, they merely had the attributes of an ordinary Human. However, physical strength was only a small part of the equation.

and finally:

Quote

Using a natural ability akin to hypnosis, which Jedi who had encountered them claimed was akin to Force manipulation, they bewitched their victims in a manner similar to a Jedi mind trick. Using this telepathy, the Anzat lured in their unsuspecting targets by mesmerizing them with their telepathic control. This control strengthened at close range and was even further augmented and honed with age and use.

To me, all of the above speaks to their being far beyond what would be a reasonable race for a PC. I would no more allow the Anzati race than I would the Shi’ido or Gen’Dai. These races are fine for exceptionally rare NPCs, but not PCs.

Agreed. Clawdite is much more reasonable. You could do the version from the Unofficial Species Menagerie, or the official version from one of the more recent books. I’ve done the former, but the latter should also be fine and well balanced for play.

Thanks all of you for your input and time :D

I'm missing 5 books still, but these are the ones I have with the master list. If someone likes spreadsheets or has more time they might put something together.

Link does not allow access.

Someone did a Master List of species, including all the blurb and info required to for character creation for each species, but its not been updated in a long while, and I cant remember who did it.

I am working on my own version of that, but not sure if I feel comfortable uploading it (Because A: FFG Might not like it, and B: The original author might not like it).

If the work is just a copy/paste of information from the FFG books, then A is a strong consideration but B is rather meaningless.

Well, it wouldnt be a Copy and Paste, it would a retype ;)

To be fair, since all that information is in OggDudes generator, I dont know if they would demand a cease and desist, since the document wouldnt allow you to play the game on its own.

for B, well... it may be meaningless, but its more about respect.... that said, if I ever get it finished (As this requires ALOT of typing), I would probably make it available.

I have another doc (Also a continuation of the same persons work) that lists all the full Talent Descriptions across the entire range... but with Talent Trees being available, this is really getting into the realms of providing the information for free to play the game.

Respect? For what is essentially regurgitating someone else's material? Original work gets my respect, but not copies. I might give thanks for the effort, but that's about it. And there are plenty of ways to scan/copy/paste that dramatically reduce the work involved, so retyping may not be the path utilized.

Yeah, you have a point.

Since I cannot scan my books without damaging them, and I have don't have OCR software, I'm not sure what other options I have available...

A quick search on Bing (don't judge) shows multiple free OCR options.
